That was the question Sam Cassell was answering, again, after Tuesday's Timberwolves practice. Cassell and his teammates are doing their best to live in the moment. But it's hard not to look back a few months and wonder ... what if?

What if everybody on the Wolves roster had accepted their roles earlier in the season? What if Cassell's hamstring, various bones on Mark Madsen's thumbs and wrist and Eddie Griffin's finger not all proved so fragile?

"I've been saying this for a month," Cassell said. "I wish the injury never occured. But it did. No need to cry about it."

It's not time to cry. The Wolves are still in the chase for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They are 3? games behind seventh-place Denver and 2? behind eighth-place Memphis. The Wolves have, apparently, gotten back on track, winning five of their past six games, including a recently concluded 2-1 road swing out west.

The Wolves will tell you that fun has returned to the equation in recent weeks, as the Wolves have gone 10-5.

"When you win it's always fun," Latrell Sprewell said. "Losing is no fun. .... It makes a difference when you're winning."

So much has gone well of late. The Wolves' defense has picked up, reflected in the shooting percentage of the team's recent opponents. The Wolves, healthy since the return of Cassell, Michael Olowokandi and Griffin to the lineup, have gotten big production from the bench, especially in the case of Cassell.</div> Source

YOu can always say "I should've, would've, could've", but when it's all said and done, it's about what you do now. If you haven't noticed, I'm not a "Fateist" (I believe that's how you spell it) and believe that you make your own destiny. You can always reflect on what you could have done better, but to dwell on it is wasted energy. The Wolves need to join with KG and just re-iterate "We're Coming". This situation reminds me of last year when we had to win every game down the stretch to keep the #1 seed from the Spurs. Now it's us who have to play quite a few "Game 7's".

It's easy to say "what if" with hindsight but that wont help the situation . It's in the past and it should stay there. I could say what if Sam didn't get injured last year in the playoffs? But he was injured and that's final. They have to stay in the present and look forward. They just have to play like they've been playing recently even if it might seem too late.

    BTW, the word is fatalist.
