Reyes' 26-game run ends in New York

Before and after games, Jose Reyes has his sore right hand packed in ice. It's bothered him for almost a week.

You couldn't tell when it comes time to play, as Reyes put together the longest hitting streak in the big leagues this year.

The 26-game streak came to an end on Thursday, however, against R.A. Dickey, as the Marlins shortstop went 0-for-4 in a 6-1 loss to the Mets.

"It's over," Reyes said. "I have an opportunity to start a new one tomorrow. I have to give some credit to Dickey. He was unbelievable. It's not easy to face Dickey. I'll take a 26-game hitting streak any day. It was a good run."

The streak matched the second longest in Marlins history. A year ago, Emilio Bonifacio hit safely in 26 games. The club record is 35, set by Luis Castillo in 2002.

"Very sad day overall," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Jose, he had a great run. Hopefully he makes another one happen pretty soon. I think this kid has been playing great.
