Far and away one of my favourite fighters ever in boxing is Ricardo Mayorga. His fight with Felix Trinidad is near and dear to my heart. Though he wasn't always a winner he was an extremely exciting fighter who knew what the fans wanted to see. Mayorga was the first fighter to beat (the late) Vernon Forrest, a feat he repeated six months later to retain the WBA Welterweight Title. Mayorga hasn't fought since September of 2008 when he lost by knockout in the 12th round against Shane Mosley. He was scheduled to have a fight since then but money and Don King got in the way and it didn't happen. Upstart promotion Sh1ne Fights held their second event last night in Miami. At the event they announced that Mayorga would be making his MMA debut under their banner. He will fight at the next Sh1ne Fights event against a "big surprise opponent". Mayorga could fight at featherweight or lightweight. At 35-years old it is a late debut for Mayorga (who has sustained a lot of damage in his career).
