Just confirmed by x-rays. Happened in 2nd quarter of Kings game, got kicked in the hand on a rebound.

It's his shooting hand, and it's not a finger but the "hand," which means he'll probably be out at least, what, a month or two?

Now the only question remains... when is it Baron's turn to be injured now? Or was he faking injury the whole time whenever he doesn't want to play for a certain coach. LOL.

I don't think Baron was faking injuries. I remember several games when he took the team on his back with Montgomery as coach.

Baron's style of play is what leads to injuries: he has the ball in his hands 40+ minutes a night, loves to go to the rim and actually seeks out contact.

I'm actually suprised he holds up so well considering how much he gets hammered in the paint.

Oh man, you'd think the injuries would stop? All I can say is that if Baron goes down, so does this team.

It's weird though, because looking at the cup half full, at least JRich will have time now to completely heal that knee. I've been afraid that he's been hindering his recovery by playing hobbled. But now he'll be able to fully rest that knee while his hand heals.

Sucks it's his shooting hand though.

Hopefully Monta comes back soon. Looks like Ike can start playing PF again, and even POB could back up Beans. Then we can trade Dunleavy for Magette and get it rolling again in time for Jrich to come back strong.

Monta is injured, JRich injured, if Baron goes down then the Warriors really will be running on a depleted squad at 1 and 2.

    Mcleod to the rescue!!!

Ike had a very efficient night. 16 points in 17 minutes and taking only 8 shots. Dude is a point producing machine. Of the 6 shots he made, 2.66pts per shot.

Short range high % shot with touch foul contact + the And1 is basically the high % three point play we should be playing [IMG] Ike is what? An 75-80% foul shooter? He's going to make the foul shot more times than not once he converts on the two point field goal.

I hope Nelson knows if we can get that game going, we don't have to keep jacking shots off the rim from deep because there's nobody inside to collapse on. Having that inside presence will greatly help in affecting the way team defenses play us on the outside. It could open up an additional midrange game without they need for much motion offense playsets because with everyone rushing inside on Ike, it allows some players to move in and take the shot from 15 or 18 feet from the elbow or in front of the key. The dilemma is how to get Ike into being a playmaker because he's pretty much made up his mind once he goes into the pivot. It's kind of like how Zach Randolph plays or how Jermaine O'neil has some problems with the kickouts.

But if Nelson wants spectactular one-on-one type of play that can break defenses down, Baron is one guy, Ike is another, Ellis is another, and maybe that's all there is unless we're throwing Mike Dunleavy on a power forward matchup and he's actually hitting his shots. Most of our mismatches are guard based, quickness matchups. But we have no strength matchups. The reason why a big guy like Biedrins can be so effective despite being so light is because he works his butt off and he's a lot quicker than everyone else in his position. But if they get a tank in there, he's toast. He was able to stay on pace with Duncan that one time because Duncan isn't that athletic, but he's smart enough to figure Beans out.

Now if we had Ike in there paired up with Beans, I think that's a matchup to watch out for because Ike can hit from the outside and pass it, he's just not a real threat from nba three point range yet. But, we don't want more of that kind of play. We want a guy that can take some guy off the dribble some, he can post up, face up, and he can defend or at least alter some guys shot at the rim if he can't move his feet quickly enough to cover the perimeter. Have Beans guard the perimeter in some cases because he's a quicker lateral movement player.

The problem with Ike is definitely not scoring. That's for sure. Too bad he needs to work on all the other aspects of his game.

Aside from some misreads on the rebounding where he clearly looked like he didn't read the ball right (who can with the new ball???), his defense looked okay. I just can't stand the fact he has to gather himself anytime he wants to challenge a shot or get a rebound. That takes too much time and once he's up in the air, he's toast if it's a pump fake or the ball bounces over his head. He's a little bit short for his position, but I think it won't be too much of a problem because he's got a lot of things many big players don't have. And plus he killed the Wallaces last year and did pretty well on Bosh. How cool was that? I like Ike's build for the position. He's got a wide shouldered frame, good lower/upper body strength, and incredible balance and ability to mix up power/finesse. If we're riding Biedrins as future center, we know he's not going to get much bigger with his frame. But Ike on paper would be an excellent match IMO. A wide, compact guy that can score, hustle, block shots, shoot inside and out, pass, and shoot free throws.

That's a basketball god gift right there and something Mullin did right when looking at players like Gerald Green, Sean May, Danny Granger, or Andrew Bynum. For all that hype about Andrew Bynum early on, it sure didn't look like he did much to beat out perennial underachiever Kwame Brown for the starting rotation. I don't even care if Ike is whining like Dunleavy did, those guys are smart basketball players that try hard every game and maybe they know something about what they're talking about when they are complaining or playing the blame/whining game.

I know I talk of Ike like an all-star, but he's the only bright side next to Ellis, Beans, Baron, Jrich. At least for me. I love talking about Ike, Beans, Ellis, and the new guys. That's interesting to me, especially if they're pretty good to begin with and then they get better.

Sigh... How long will it take? Like Alleyoop said, at least he will rest his knee while his hand heals. And, fracture shouldn't be a lingering injury. So, hopefully he will return strong in 2nd half. Monta is injured, Pietrus is wearing a mask, and there are tons of other injuries. When will it stop...

Two months.... even he and Nellie admit it means the knee can heal. I've wanted him to heal the knee all along, but two months.... that's a lot of games.

    Time for a trade.

    Also, what's Monta's status?

These injuries put an even bigger responsibility on Baron. He has carried the Warriors this far, but as these injuries add up it just means even more responsibility and pressure on Baron. It doesn't help him when his co-captain is out for weeks and the other co-captain is Dunleavy (this part is just sad, so sad).

At this point Baron has no supporting cast... McKleod, Dunleavy, Murphy... ugh. God I hope we find some way to get Maggette.

Wasn't Foyle a captain one year? Like 2004 before Baron Davis came. I thought Fisher, Richardson, and Foyle were all tri captains.

    LOL!

But I could be wrong. It could be Clif still, but I don't think we kept him for very long. And plus, Foyle didn't get any burn until Clif Robinson was traded to the Nets because Monty wouldn't play Foyle at C and he knew Dale Davis was trade bait. Who was the third captain then? It couldn't have been Murphy. I don't remember Murphy being a captain. I don't think Claxton was a captain. Damn, did we only have two then?

Previous year was Avery Johnson, Jason Richardson, and Clif Robinson as captains, so maybe Clif Robinson was captain until the trade. Nevermind, Foyle could never be a captain, I think. It was probably just Fish, Jrich. And plus, it's a meaningless title. It means more in hockey/football than it does basketball.

In fact on our warriors nba homepage it says we have a few captains actually.

As I was watching the game last night and then heard of J-Rich's broken/fractured hand, I thought how screwed we are going to be. Then, as AlleyOop has mentioned, I looked at the silver lining in all of this. We have so much young talent that deserves PT, that J-Rich's second injury will allow them to develop more than the would have and at the same time, his knee can fully heal and hopefully he can work on other parts of his game while he's out.

I agree that this injury could be a good thing for Jrich, to let him completely recover. But he's gonna be rusty in terms of in game action still. Probably won't see a top form Jrich until next season. Hopefully the surgeons didn't screw up his knee.

The warriors do have a lot of young talent. The problem is that everyone is injured (Zarko, Monta, Roberson). Then POB is going to the NBDL. Also the only real guard type players are BD, Mcleod, and Pietrus, possibly Barnes can fill in at SG.

I think this will force Nellie to use a bigger slower lineup at times. So Ike may see extended minutes.

Good points. I wonder when Roberson and Ellis are coming back, because as I recall the Warriors won some big games with those two, while JRich was out. I remember thinking "Just leave JRich on the bench, let him heal, these guys are playing fine."

If Ellis and Roberson can come back soon, I actually think GS will be okay at the guard spot. But it would still be nice to upgrade for depth.

Of course it hurts, but now JRich can heal the knee. I don't buy the idea that you can play yourself into shape with an injured knee that has been operated on. Slow phyiscal therapy is what you need. I've had knee surgery, and I know well the recovery process. Even once you're maybe 70% and can semi-run, you still need to take it easy. I don't see how, with the rigors of the NBA, between travelling and playing all these uber-tough games in short bursts, there's any possible way to take your knee from 70% to 100%. Most likely you'll only delay healing, create inflammation and possibly hinder the structural integrity long term. Better to get it back to 100% before you come back. See Amare Stoudamire.

Now, here's the thing: what to do with Dunleavy. The problem is he's not a true guard or forward. We can't play him at 4 regularly. Barnes can't hold that spot against bigger forwards. Murphy is a back-up IMO. We need a solid starting PF. I hope Ike busts out. But Dunleavy is really a ? for me. If we swapped him for Magette our SG woes would be cured:

    1)Baron
    2)Maggete
    3)Pietrus
    4)Murphy
    5)Biedrins

or some other combo. Until Ellis and Roberson come back, SG wil be thin because Pietrus is turnover prone when dribbling, and McCleod is a ball-hog. So getting Magette really makes sense right now. In some ways, despite his being shorter, he can actually play SF spot better than Dun, if need be, because he's stronger and more explosive.

I really feel that the Warriors need a trade now. But it also hinges on the recovery of Ellis and Roberson. What's more important: a solid PF who can rebound, or some depth at SG?
