<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sorry to interrupt playoff fever with talk of the future. But it would be negligent not to warn of what seems to be a major pending departure.

You might want to cherish these moments with the Warriors' starting backcourt. Point guard Baron Davis has cemented his status as the team's most important player and a true NBA star, and shooting guard Jason Richardson is the emotional leader of the team. But no matter how you crunch the numbers, no matter how you maneuver the roster, it is practically impossible to come up with a reasonable scenario in which they stay together. That's right. This may very well be the Davis-Richardson swan song.</div>

Doubt it. The Warriors will get rid of Pietrus and pay the luxury tax.

I dont know what decision I would make.

If you trade Davis, you trade the first implact player to catapult us to the playoffs in 12 years. Davis IS the catalyst. I dont care what you say about Jrich being the emotional leader. No Davis means no playoffs, while without Richardson this team can at least hold it's own. That is unless Monta turns into an All Star quality PG this offseason. That is the only way Davis is expendable, or if we trade for a solid PG in return like an Andre Miller from a few years ago.

Jrich is the most valuable piece because of his relatively efficient contract. He would be a great piece on a team like the Mavs or Spurs. But to trade him away you need to get back something in return like a decent PF. And I dont see too many of those guys floating around. I wonder if a Jrich, Harrington and POB for Garnett and some decent SG like Foye would work...

J-Rich, Harrington, and POB for KG and Foye? Yeah, I'd do that

Well, first thing I'd ask is: who do you replace them with? If you trade Baron, and make Monta the PG, then you have a dilemma because you'll need a very good ball-handling SG to make up for Monta's so-so control. JRich is not that.

Right now, a backcourt of JRich + Monta = turnover prone. JRich can't bring the ball up very well and isn't a natural dribbler. And Monta will struggle at times and need help there.

Now, SJax is a good ball-handling guard, but he's more of a SF. I don't see Monta + SJax as a viable starting 1-2 either.

On the other side of the coin, JRich is more easily replaced, at least in terms of production (heart and leadership is not so easily replaced). For instance, even though Monta is small, I can see Baron + Monta as the starting backcourt.

Or even Baron + Az. Az can stretch the D with his shot, he's strong, can rebound, defend, and finish in transition.

However, it all depends on what you get back if you trade one of those two guys. If it's a legit starting PF with size, then I can see trading Jrich because his rebounding will be made up and Monta's small size will be balanced by starting Harrington at the SF.

    Baron
    Monta
    Harrington
    Pau
    Biedrins

Even though Monta is a small 2, this is still a hefty starting 5 because Harrington is a big SF. Of course, geting Pau is unlikely. But this is the idea.

Otherwise, I don't see trading either one of those guys. Just like philsmith75 says, Pietrus will probably be gone, and by now Mully has probably talked Cohan into paying lux tax.

I am excited to see what we can get in a sign and trade for Pietrus. I would like to at least see a decent 1st round draft pick. He is well worth it...

over 42% 20ppg scorers are hard to find that are at least 6'4 and 220 lbs. Jrich is a player that we must keep IMO, unless a guy like Ray Allen comes around.

I agree with philsmith, can Pietrus. We needed strong bench production, he is not that guy. He's about a tad better than Barnes on most occasions.

And AO is right about Baron, we sort of need him too. I feel like we have to stick Ellis in as a bench guy until he learns to be a point guard. College could have taught him that. Now he's a second rounder, but we still have to pay the price of having to develop him instead of drafting him at round 1 ready to go at point guard.

I want to keep both JRich and Baron. JRich is the heart of this team, and the Warriors aren't the same without him. Same goes for Baron. Without him, we miss our leader and the playoffs. I think Baron could mentor Monta for a few years and teach him to be a true point guard and one of the best in the future.

Seriously, we are Warriors fans witnessing our first playoff run in forever. Let us enjoy it without these random, out of the blue articles.

Right now it's all about Baron and JRich carrying the team to the playoffs. Let the offseason come when it comes. I know it's almost April which usually signals the end of the season (if not before then) but come on...

Also winning will definitley improve these two players' trade value. So all we should be focusing on is playoffs, or at least the last stretch of the season.
