Former two-weight champion Ricky Hatton has called time on his illustrious ring career after announcing his retirement officially for the first time saying he knew the decision 12 months ago. Hatton who hasn’t fought since his brutal second round knockout at the hands of pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in 2009, finally ended speculation of a comeback at a small gathering in Manchester today. ‘I’m here today to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s a decision that I’ve known for some years now and I didn’t want to admit it,’ Hatton told friends and associates from the press and boxing. ‘I’ve always been a very proud person and I think because of my pride and my heart was why I was able to beat fighters that were more talented than me. ‘At the end against Manny Pacquiao was a bitter pill for me to swallow. I went into the gym to give myself the opportunity to get into shape and give it another go but it just wasn’t there anymore.
