    I'm moving to CA in a couple days. I'm leaving most of my firearms in WA but I need to look into the laws. I think there is a 10 round limit/magazine so I'll probably just bring my carry 40 which only holds 6 rounds, and perhaps my shotgun.

    Anyone with CA experience, speak up, I don't want to do anything illegal. I will travel with firearms unloaded and in a locked container. Anything else?

    Not all open carry states are the same, however, and laws vary from state to state. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence lists states that prohibit the open carry of handguns in public places, states that allow open carrying without a permit, and states that require some form of license to open carry. They currently list five statesthat prohibit the open carrying of handguns in public places.

    But that’s not the only issue with these statistics.

    We asked several experts about Gaetz’s methodology. Many of them said the single law was too narrow to draw meaningful conclusions about its impact. In essence, his number -- for one year -- is right, but so what?

    Gaetz framed the use of the stats as "evidence that this bill does not create a less safe environment." John Pierce, co-founder of gun rights group OpenCarry.org, agreed with that point. But he said the data doesn't necessarily reflect a correlation between allowing open carry and fewer instances of violent crime.

    He noted that Texas and Florida are both populous states with huge numbers of concealed carry permit holders so focusing just on open carry laws will give a skewed picture about the effect of legally-armed citizens on crime rates.

    Tomislav Kovandzic, a University of Texas professor who teaches classes on research methods and gun control, was more blunt.

    "The problem with this approach is that it implicitly assumes that both groups of states were identical/similar before the laws in the treatment states (in this case, open carry states) were enacted," Kovandzic told PolitiFact via email. "This is rarely, if ever, the case. As a result, the comparison merely reflects group differences that existed before the treatment states enacted the laws."

    I'll take the words of Self-Defense instructors/experts, the NRA-ILA (among others), and those who actually carry firearms before I'll listen to you or some moron bean counter at Stanford.

    And anyone who takes firearms knowledge or information from Leftist sources seriously is a fool. They are about as unbiased on issues of firearms and Carry Laws as Hillary Clinton is honest, and if they weren't so biased, they would see that their own ignorance speaks against common sense when it comes to this issue. A retarded child can see the folly of that study.

    My politics have absolutely nothing to do with it, so please don't even try to go there. That's nothing more than a red herring. I base my views on common sense, along with facts and related factual information. My lifelong personal opinion (please note I said "personal opinion") is that handgun ownership is either for the perpetually fearful or for those who have low self esteem. Beat me up all you want, statistics favor the need for stricter gun controls. And all the NRA propaganda you choose to dig up and all the political finger pointing in the world isn't going to change that. Time to move on.....

    21 shot last night...pretty current news whether you want to call them criminals and lump them in with the majority of criminals is up to you..I don't know any of those folks...but I know there were a lot of guns in that nightclub...and it didn't keep the peace or make anybody safer
