Super Dave and Mean Gene on the same day. That's my childhood, man! If Pee-wee Herman kicks it this evening, I'm gonna lose it.
I just saw him on Comedians in cars getting coffee...read today he's the only comedian to do that show twice...the guy came up writing for the Smothers Brothers, Dick Van Dyke, tons of stuff....he and Steve Martin were writers together back in the day....Super Dave gave us a lot of laughs through the years...rest in peace!
Super Dave was filmed in Toronto and I used to watch it when I was a kid. I also enjoyed him on Curb. I did not know he was Albert Brooks' brother.
was to me...I just learned that today...also learned Tommy Smothers discovered him when he was working construction installing the Stars on the walk of fame.
My father, brother and I used to laugh our asses off watching Super Dave and Fuji. Man. They just don't make comedy life that any more.
If you aren't familiar with his recurring role on the Smothers Brothers, you don't know his initial fame. Southern California was a mafia/police state against old liberals and us young longhairs, and he pretended to be tough in an LAPD uniform with a white helmet. (If you're not familiar with the Smothers Brothers, they got cancelled when they had the highest ratings of all TV programs...and purged from TV to this day.)
I've seen the Smothers Brothers in person at Portland's Civic Auditorium. Must have been somewhere in the early 60s. They were hilarious.
