One of the greatest pitchers in MLB. A pure power right-hand pitcher who set numerous records throughout his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. A great competitor & teammate. A true leader. May you Rest In Peace.
What a horrible week, what a horrible month, what a horrible year. Covid, Earthquakes, Hurricanes and Wildfires and the losses of many. Earlier Gale Sayers, Lou Brock, Tom Seaver; now Gibson, 2 Giants amongst Giants! The one Pitcher I studied, analyzed, emulated and imitated as a Little League Pitcher in the 60s, including falling off the mound, but less the brushback Chin Music. Through the sixties into the seventies I would have rather watched Bob Gibson on the mound, more so than Sandy Koufax, Juan marichal, or anyone else. Between growing up in Wichita and Shreveport, the st. Louis Cardinals ruled those areas MLB telecast. I will never forget seeing those cardinal red uniforms for the first time in color, in 1964 for the first time on a color tv, the 1st color TV on the Block. Imagine IF Mantle had wound up playing for the closest MLB Team from Commerce, the local Cardinals! Musial to Mantle with Bob Gibson! 17 strikeouts in one World Series game On This Day 52 yrs ago. One of the highest decorated Pitchers of all time. We we're blessed and honored to have witnessed his greatness in our time.
The man was a flat out wheeler dealer on the mound. RIP sir you were right there with the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
