Tuesday, August 12 Seven years, $62 million for Pistons' star guard -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Richard Hamilton will be with the Detroit Pistons for a while. The Pistons said Tuesday they re-signed the restricted free-agent guard to a seven-year, $62 million contract that was agreed upon last month. "I wanted to be here and they wanted me here," Hamilton, 25, said. "The big thing was feeling like a family here, feeling wanted. It feels like home." Pistons president Joe Dumars, who traded Jerry Stackhouse to Washington last summer for Hamilton, said it was a good day for the team to be able to secure Hamilton to a long-term contract. Not really..he is a consistant 20 point scorer...carried the team in the playoffs for most of the time and he is young.....meanwhile when lesser guys are getting 65-70 million..and asking for 87 I think it is ok for rip to get this kind of contract
I'd say its a little much for Rip, but given what the Clippers guys' received its in line with current market value.
Lets compare it to the KMart situation. KMart is asking for a $87 million/ 6 year extension. RIP signed a 7 year deal for $62 million. Thats a year longer. Take 62/7= roughly 9 62-9= 53 That would be the equivalent(roughly) as if RIP asked for a $53 million/6 year extension. Thats pretty close to his market value. And KMart has the nerve to ask for $34 million more......(lol). RIP is projected to make about $6.5-$7 million this season. For the kind of player he is, thats a reasonable priced deal. Good re-signing.
Kmart wants 20milm more than Odom. 34mil more than Rip. hes not as good as either of them. ahh, greed. so dependable
IMO i think you need to average at least 20PPG and 10 rebounds..while leading your team well to get contracts like martin asked for...people may think rip and brand are overpaid...but they are still 20 point scorers and help their team in a big way...
Brand is getting the money he has earned. Rip is getting a little more than he should be he did do great in the playoffs. K-Mart should not get more than Brand thou.
Both RIP and Brand are the stars of their teams, so they deserve to get that much. They pretty much carry the team, provide leadership, etc. Kenyon does not, he is the second man, Jason of course is the first, providing great stats and amazing leadership.
