Assistant Coaches http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...articleid=22013 <u> Dave Wohl </u> Dave Wohl has 25 years of experience in professional sports. He is currently the Assistant Coach of the Orlando Magic of the NBA. From 1994 through 1996, Mr. Wohl was the Executive VP and Director of Basketball Operations for the Miami Heat. Mr. Wohl played in the NBA from 1971 through 1978 and then spent the next 15 years as both a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach in the NBA, which included a league championship with the LA Lakers during that time. <u> Tony Brown </u> College - Arkansas '82 Tony Brown follows Head Coach Kevin O?Neill from Detroit to Toronto to become the lead assistant on the Raptors coaching staff. Both Brown and O?Neill served as assistant coaches on Rick Carlisle?s staff in Detroit the past two seasons. Brown has spent six seasons as an NBA assistant coach where his teams have posted a 290-170 (.630) regular-season record and advanced to the playoffs each season. During his time with the Pistons, the club recorded a 100-64 (.610) regular-season record, registered back-to-back 50-win seasons, captured two Central Division titles and advanced to the Eastern Conference Final last season.
Here's an update on potential staff under the 'Doc' <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES -- Doc Rivers is getting closer to having his coaching staff intact. The Celtics coach said yesterday that longtime lieutenant Dave Wohl and former Toronto assistant Tony Brown were on board and should be in Boston as soon as today. Lionel Hollins, an assistant with Memphis last season, is still a possibility, although his involvement is somewhat strange given that he already is a top aide with the Grizzlies and is well thought of down there. Rivers said another will come from a group that includes former Sixers head coach Randy Ayers, Celtics scout Paul Cormier, and former Rivers assistants Mark Hughes and Paul Pressey.</div> Full Article: http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/ce...staff_lined_up/
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Randy Ayers</div> I think that's a decent selection as an assistant, as well as Wohl and Brown. Kevin O'neill is from the area I grew up in (He's from Chateaugay, NY, which is about 17 miles from Champlain, where I grew up) and is a friend of a former boss of mine, so I had reason to follow him through his various coaching positions. O'neill likes to surround himself with X's and O's kind of guys. With Doc being a motivational type coach, we'll need strong basketball X's and O's minds behind the scenes. I'm also confused about Hollins potential involvement, although despite our recent struggles, the Celtics franchise is still a coveted place to work, so maybe that's got something to do with it? About the only person I feel got absolutely screwed in all this was Lester Connors, whom I hope they will find a way to retain. He's been a long time assistant who has simply done his job to the best of his ability, despite the various coaches he's worked under while in Boston. He should have gotten the interim appointment, IMO, but I won't go into that one again.

With head coach Doc Rivers out of town fulfilling his broadcasting commitment with ABC, Wohl and Brown will work out prospects for the upcoming draft. Wohl said his contract should be finalized today, and draft workouts could start tomorrow. Asked what brought him to Boston, Wohl said, "A bunch of things, but Doc was the primary one. I enjoyed working for him in Orlando. He's a terrific coach. Let's hope we continually get thier first year in Orlando and not the subsequent one.

<u>From Boston.com:</u> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Fundamental move Draft prospects are not the only people the Celtics want stopping by the team training center in Waltham. According to another source close to the Celtics, the team has been pursuing the services of Sacramento assistant Pete Carril. After a yearlong hiatus, Carril returned to the Kings bench last season, but his contract runs out June 30. Clearly, the Celtics would benefit from the experience and success that earned Carril a place in the Hall of Fame in 1997. At Princeton, Carril became the winningest coach in Ivy League history during a career that included 13 conference titles and 11 NCAA Tournament appearances. Carril earned a reputation as an instructor of old-school, fundamentally sound basketball.</div> I don't know how much they let him contribute in Sacto, but I love Petey Carril's dedication to the fundamentals of the game. His Princeton teams made me alot of money, because they played unbelieveable defense, controlled the tempo of the game and I almost always won playing the under. I hope we get him and I hope they let him teach, because with Detriot just reminding everyone that Defense wins Championships, he would be a profound addition to our staff, IMO.
hagrid Hi, I hope I am addressing the right person. If not I apologize upfront. I was perusing through the Warriors boards here when I saw a post from you. I didn't know that you posted over here so I thought I'd say hello. It hasn't been the same without your ruling iron fist but I hope that all is well with you, your family and your job (since last I recall it was giving you some undue stress). In any case, take care and best of luck to the Celtics in the upcoming draft.
It is indeed the same person bro. I'm glad you stopped by to drop a line. I've missed all you folks. There's some very good posters over in the Warriors forum here, so I hope you enjoy the reading. <font color="DarkRed"><font size="1">(wtwalker77 reminds me of Pudding, if that gives you a clue to the quality in there  )</font></font> Anyways, very cool to see a familiar name and hope you post once in a while. (you know I won't advocate for "stealing you away", but we can live with sharing )
