Though The Fast and the Furious was a franchise-launching megahit, Cohen has also been responsible for several high-profile but very forgettable action thrillers, including Alex Cross, Stealth, xXx, The Skulls and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. He’s currently working on Blumhouse Productions’ thriller, The Boy Next Door, in which J-Lo has an affair with a teenage neighbor. That probably doesn’t end well for her. TheWrap reports the new Road House script was written by Michael Stokes, who also wrote Crash Bandits, another project Cohen is attached to helm. As part of his deal with MGM, Cohen will rework the Road House screenplay (hopefully to include a monster truck and a long-haired Sam Elliot). The original Road House told the tale of a man known only as Dalton (Patrick Swayze), a professional bouncer with a mysterious past. Called in to clean up a rowdy bar in Jasper, Missouri, Dalton finds himself at the center of a fight against the corrupt local businessman who runs the town. Though it opened to mixed reviews and modest box office returns, Road House has become a cultural icon, with references to be found all over popular culture, including Adult Swim, Family Guy, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. The movie also spawned an indirect sequel in 2006 titled Road House 2: Last Call, but let’s not talk about that, okay?
Bite your tongue. "Citizen Kane" and "The Godfather" don't hold a candle to the masterwork that is "Road House". It's comparatively easy to make a great movie, but what was done in 1989 was much more difficult: They made the greatest bad movie of all time. It exceeds even "Plan 9 From Outer Space".

I thought Rob Cohen might be a pseudonym for embarrassed directors (Alan Smithee) but it seems that is a real guy. His last three movies (Alex Cross, Stealth, and the Mummy sequel) lost over $100-million combined. I'm sure Road House 2: Road Houser (working title) will be great.
One of the greatest "12 year-old boy" movies ever. At least 4 "freeze the VHS and frame-forward" scenes; more bar brawls than Gone in 60 Seconds had car chases; Sam Elliott; Patrick Swayze using his Ph.D. in Philosophy to win Kelly Lynch over by proclaiming "pain don't hurt"... I'm with maxiep on this one.
People who don't like Roadhouse just aren't fans of the genre. There's simply no room for improvement. A better lead than Swayze? Can't bring him back. A better sidekick than Elliot? He's a bit long in the tooth for bar fights now. And with Jeff Healy gone the soundtrack is doomed to disappoint too. Picking a known talentless hack to direct it makes the whole thing seem like a planned bomb, a tax write-off.
Sweet. I'm down for a redneck kung fu remake. Road House gave me ideas for fighting... Attack the balls and knees.
Strike your tongue! Plan 9 From Outer Space has no equal to its dreadfulness. Your recent dance party offering suggests a strong Patrick Swayze bias. So I'm going to ignore your opinion on psychotronic cinema. Good day sir!
You would think they learned something after trying to recreate other 80's entertainment like the Dukes of Hazzard.
Roadhouse might be my favorite movie of all time. It might be a rather simple movie but it was done just right by Swayze, Elliot and gang. It might be very difficult to cut it right again. I had a couple gigs in Longbeach like in the movie way back when I was taking classes and working a project at Cal Tech. Sort of a Friday Saturday night job.
I watch it every time it shows up on one of my few movie channels. The only other movie I do that with is Masters and Commanders but it is wearing thin.
