<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Given his lofty standing in the community, David Robinson would probably be a shoo-in to win an election for a City Council seat or any other position in city government.

David Robinson said that he won't enter politics, but he still has big plans for San Antonio.

"He would be an excellent candidate," said Henry Flores, a political science professor at St. Mary's.

But there's just one problem for those who would like to see the former Spurs star enter politics — he has no interest in running for elected office in his adopted hometown or anywhere else for that matter.

"Absolutely none," Robinson said recently when asked if he had any desire to run for City Council. "Do you see what they do to politicians? You cannot win."

Robinson's future, however, does include plans to work for the betterment of the community. During a recent appearance at an event celebrating Sports Illustrated's 50th anniversary, the Spurs' all-time leader in points (in NBA games), rebounds, blocks and steals said he is considering a ministry post with Oak Hills Church.

"The Lord is leading me in that direction, and I probably will do that," Robinson said. "I'm leaning toward that, but I don't know in what capacity. The (church) elders are trying to figure out how to put me to good use."

Max Lucado, pastor of Oak Hills Church, said he and other church leaders are considering asking Robinson to become a "minister at large."

"He is a great teacher and a great builder," Lucado said Monday. "We would be thrilled to have him involved in some capacity."
