From Iannazzone's blog:

Bernard Robinson's already low trade value got worse Saturday. The forward injured his left knee at the end of the closed part of practice. I'm hearing MCL, 6-8 weeks. The Nets won't have an official announcement until he sees the team doctor on Monday.

    And...Houston, we don't have liftoff.

yup, its timeforThorn to make a move, I would rather have them cut Mile mainly because his salary is less than Bernard's either way its going to count against our cap

the McInnis signing continues to haunt us.

I was actually hoping he might be able to do SOMETHING this season, maybe contribute in some way. Who knows, maybe we'll get a good trade w/ him included.

Poor Bernard. On the bright side, he'll be getting healthy right around when other players should be getting hurt. On the downside, since he'll miss a chunk of training camp, who knows what kind of opportunity he'll get. He could still contribute, though, if everyhting works out right.. . . he would have been on the inactive list anyway had everyone else been healthy.

Not sure we can cut him because he still gets guaranteed money. I'd say this means Hites chances of making the team just increased, and means Houston may not even get into camp.

Correction on the circumstances of the injury. He was injured in the pre-public part of the practice, not warmups. The team had practiced for an hour prior to the arrival of the fans.

The sad part is that word from camp was that he was playing well, particularly in the competition with Wright.

Just out of curiosity where was this heard from? I mean was this an attempt to try and boost an already non exsistant trade value for him? I'm not saying they're lying but I highly doubt yer gonna hear that he's playing badly when the teams reportedly doing all it can to move him or Mile. Competing with Wright actually has me worried abut Antoine than encouraged about BRob.

Also means there's less pressure on Wright to maintain and improve his level of play. Not really sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Now we lost Marcus and BRob. Hite, Nachbar, Wright, and Armstrong should get more minutes to help this team.

we think we have a little trouble and short-handed problem in the bench of backcourt.

I don't think it was the pre-public part of it, I saw him get injured about 5 minutes into it and he was on the ground for a while. I forget what they were doing (either half court scrimage or running threw a set) and I think Jumaine Jones banged knees with him as he said "I want that roster spot."

WOW. If that is true, which seems a bit unlikely...that'd be crazy. Too bad Jumaine's not gettin it with injury problems of his own.

It was just before they started the scrimmage. I didn't actually see it happen, but he went down right along the sideline, near the corner. Maybe he injured himself before that but just kept going?

He was injured before the Open Practiceintroductions. Sussman noted during introductions that he was injured.

Today update on Bernard's injury gave no timetable for his return, I know its unfortunate for Bernard and his career but for a team built to win now, can we afford to have his roster spot unutilized?

Exactly my thought, now with the reviews of Ilic and no possible buyout, a spending the season in the D-League's that's basically 3 deadweight roster spots(Marcus, Robinson and Ilic). One of the nice things about our new found depth is that players 1-12 are expected to contribute to some degree. Start, RJ, Allen, Collins, Kidd and VC. Bench, Boki, Krstic, Magloire, Armstrong, Wright, Sean Williams, and Boone, that's 15 players. Leaving Hite, Jones and Benson on the outside looking in unless Rat's going to swallow a contract.

In the grand scheme of thing having a couple deadweight players isn't a killer. On one hand it will force Frank to play the guys he's got and figure out a good rotation for the playoffs. Yeah it sucks to not have another guy there to compete for a spot in the rotation but Frank has enough stuff to figure out as is and it could be a blessing in disguise. Illic and BRob were on the outside looking in anyways and adding another guard could do as much damage as good with giving Frank too many options when we have young players who need floortime for us.
