"There were jumpers and cuts to the basket, jump hooks and flights above the rim. With each smooth move, there were reasons to feel just a bit better about the Rockets search for someone to step into the void in the middle.

The Rockets, however, want more. They need more.

While Yao Ming works his way back in 12-minute stretches (actually pushing it closer to 13 on Thursday) and Brad Miller waits for his sprained left ankle to allow his first practice or game time, Hill showed much of what he can do with the available minutes.

He helped drive the Rockets first-half comeback from an 11-point deficit, scoring nine of his 16 points in the second quarter to highlight a 90-87 win over the San Antonio Spurs Thursday at Toyota Center.

Yao played nearly 13 minutes, scoring five points with seven rebounds. He made 2 of 8 shots, both on layups on pick-and-rolls with Aaron Brooks. Unlike Tuesday's first outing, he improved defensively, finishing his time on the floor with consecutive blocked shots. "
