http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nba&id=1911770 ^Though the relevancy of this thread may be questioned (Trip you can lock it up if need be), I thought this was a good move, considering the guys statistics, as well as scouting reports: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketbal...0/abcd_barrett/ <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">At an event where most players consider passing a fourth option -- behind shooting, dunking, or finding a different spot to shoot from -- Barrett averaged 8.1 assists over eight games. </div> http://www.usabasketball.com/biosmen/andre_barrett_bio.html <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Attended Rice High School (N.Y.) and averaged 18.6 ppg., 11.5 apg. and 3.4 spg. as a senior. This kid has had an insane career -- even though so many highschool and college phenoms don't turn out the way theyre supposed to, this guy has some great skills. If you can dish out 8+ assists, and dont turn the ball over, you can suceed anywhere. Just my 2 cents.
I agree with you magnomonkey, anyone that can dish out 8 assists and get no turnovers can universally succeed anywhere. Barrett will be a good addition to the rockets and hopefully he gets playing time behin Sura and Lue.
Are you guys kidding me? Barrett plays Street Ball with Fat Joe. This guy your saying will put up 8 assists/no turnovers a game? Outta your minds, sorry. This is the NBA and a totally different level than this dude is used to.
Great news. Zimmerman hasn't look special so far and Barrett is the perfect man for the third point guard slot. He had an exceptional career at Seton Hall and did very well in the summer league with the Knicks. Playing with a similar type in Charlie Ward will only improve his game. In fact, I was actually hoping we'd draft Barrett in the second round of the draft. He went undrafted, but here he is.
yeh i agree its a great addition...Barrett will be nice as a third-stringer and will hopefully develop into a good player...he's quick and can pass but I'm not sure how his jump shot is...
I hope the Rockets trade someone like clerence weatherspoon and 2 second rounders for a guy like Jeff McGinnis. With J-Mac , the Rockets would surely win the championship .
Wow...from his stats...i'am impressed. Well hopefully he gets playing time. And maybe him and reece gaines and play each other..and get better while playing each other..and work on things.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">From his stats, this guy looks awesome. Why hasn't he been drafted? and why did the Knicks wave him?</div> Being Drafted was because, he decided to honor his 4 years at Seton Hall, unlike so many others, he could've gone in last year's or the year before's draft, and could've been an early second rounder. He got waived by the Knicks because they already have 16 guarenteed contracts, they had to waive some people. Just my 2 cents.
Do you think he'll get much playing time? With sura being hurt and what he said he'll be back by december.. will he be playing number 2 or 3 as the back-up? from what you thin.
Barret lacks a jump shot and height to be an effective shooting guard. He is only 5-10, and that was a big part of the reason he didn't generate much interest in the draft. His playing time will be decided on his work ethic, and being on a Van Gundy team, certainly his defense. The odds are that he won't beat out Lue or Ward for PT this year, but might be a good insurance option in case of injury. IMO, he'll be somewhat to us like what Maurice Williams was to the Jazz last year.
Dre jumpshot is pretty decent it just doesnt have NBA 3pt range. And he gonna get killed trying to get in the lane against all those bigbodies in the west. And he gonna get posted up alot against guys like Baron Davis and Sam Cassell out west. But he is probably the best pg on your roster at running a offense. Because Ward is the only true point guard you guys have that can run an offense properly but he cant create & make plays off the dribble like Dre can. But Dre's size is gonna hold him back from getting serious minutes, if Dre was over 6 foot he would easily have a legit spot in this league. And he would have gotten drafted last year coming out of Seton Hall.
