Rockies ride Rutledge, rookies to victory

Josh Rutledge became the first Rockies rookie to homer in four straight games. But Thursday night's two-run shot was the first of those that truly meant something.

The seventh-inning shot gave the Rockies a three-run lead en route to an 8-2 victory over the Cardinals that ended a losing streak at five games and snapped a Coors Field skid at seven.

Tyler Colvin's second double of the game, off Fernando Salas (1-4), drove in DJ LeMahieu to break a 2-2 tie and make a winner of reliever Rex Brothers (6-2), who forced a Lance Berkman double play after replacing Alex White in the sixth and gave up no hits in 1 2/3 innings. Rutledge followed with his homer -- his fifth since being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs on July 13 -- off Salas for a 5-2 lead.
