<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">8. Toronto, SF Josh Childress. I know, I know. This pick does not appear to make much sense considering the Raptors have Vince Carter and Morris Peterson on their roster. However, Childress is such a good value pick at eighth overall (He could be taken as high as third overall) it would be difficult to justify passing on him and his versatility means he will be a good fit no matter who drafts him. If he does end up in Toronto, he will likely be asked to play a point-forward type of role. Childress? ball-handling ability and savvy court-sense makes him more than capable of being successful running the offense for fairly long stretches. However, using him as a full-time point-forward would take away from his strengths, namely his mid-range game and excellent rebounding ability. His lateral quickness and massive wingspan have allowed Childress to become one of the nation?s top defenders as a Junior. He can defend three positions and should shine as a defensive stopper, even as a rookie. </div> Read The Rest From The Exclusives Forum
I'm a huge fan of Childress, I think hes a great player and I love his game, however this move does not make sense for the Raptors unless they plan on moving Jalen Rose and not re-signing Morris Peterson. Our roster right now really needs a point guard, and a center. If someone like Devin Harris or Ben Gordon is available at the 8th spot, in my opinion, would be stupid to pass up based on the teams needs. If, in fact, the Raptors do get rid of Mo and Jalen, then this would seem more sensible, but even in that situation we would still be left without a point guard, and for a person whos watched probably 82 Raptors games this past season, a point guard should be this organizations #1 priority (and a center but I doubt that will be solved in the draft).
