I hear this guy made the Memphis summer team. In addition to his hilarious blog, he's also got a nice midrange game and a great set of wheels. Good luck to 'im.
6 points (3-3 FG), 3 rebounds, 0 assists in 22 minutes as a starter for Benson in the Grizzlies' first game against Yi Jianlian and Team China. Not too bad for the dumbest kid to ever come out of Berkeley. 0.000001% chance he makes the regular season squad, but knowing Rod through his blog, he's probably still just excited for the opportunity.
<div class="quote_poster">Montaman Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I live near Berkeley. My roommate goes to Berkeley. You're not giving Rod enough credit, believe me.</div> In what sense, that he's not going to make the squad? Where will he fit in? Here's the Grizzlies' current roster under contract - PG - Mike Conley, Jr./Kyle Lowry/Damon Stoudamire SG - Mike Miller/Tarence Kinsey SF - Rudy Gay PF - Hakim Warrick/Alexander Johnson/Brian Cardinal C - Pau Gasol/Stromile Swift/Sergei Lishouk That only leaves three roster spots open, all of which should probably be filled by a wing. You also have to consider that the Grizzlies are intending on making a huge splash in free agency. They've got more cap room than any team not named the Bobcats at the moment. EDIT: 44 minutes, 10 points (3-6 FG), 6 rebounds, 0 assists, 1 steal, 1 block for Benson in tonight's loss to the Pistons. That's ridiculously unproductive for 44 minutes of action.
I was actually only speaking to the notion that he's the dumbest kid to come out of Berkeley. Certainly, his odds with Memphis aren't great, but I know he got good pub when he was working out for the Warriors, and I suspect he'll find a team soon enough. In an ideal world, though, I think a player like him ought to have a place on a team when there are guys like Mark Madsen and, indeed, Stromile Swift around. As far as his line for his last game is concerned, certainly those numbers in 44 minutes don't jump out, but he did hit three of his only six shots, and I wouldn't necessarily pass judgement on his performance unless I sat down and watched the whole game, saw what sorts of plays they were running, and so forth, since him only taking six shots could be circumstance as much as anything else. I haven't watched the game cause I'm not really a Memphis fan, and maybe you did, in which case I gladly defer to your assessment.

Agreed on the Stromile Swift sentiment though. I'd take Benson over him and Cardinal's fat contract any day.
Ahh, I read his blog now and then, but I didn't catch the reference. Didn't mean to cause a stir or anything, sorry. I think Madsen bothers me more than Stromile. At least Stromile can get up. Mark Madsen is a complete media creation, fueled by the notion that he plays hard every night, and is therefore somehow worthy of a roster spot despite his discernable lack of basketball talent.
