Rodney Hood is leading Blazer swish3 shooting accuracy and should be contributing 3-6 swish3s per game. As of end of Nov, Rodney has scored 50.8% swish3 attempts, has a TS% of 65.5, and an eFG% of 63.8. Rodney scores well from several spots, and should be attempting more FGA each game. It is a wasted resource not to plan each game to include at least 6 swish3 attempts, or even better 6 per half, by Rodney, and to aim for an average for the Blazers of 15+ swish3s scored per game. We will be making the same mistake that we made last year when we did not plan plays for catch and shoot swish3s by Meyers and Rodney. Meyers showed us in the WCF that scoring 5 of 6 swish3s and 10 of 12 FGA in one half are possible, To beat the Lakers, Clippers, Bucks, Celtics, and other leading teams, the Blazers need to include swish3s. In the first 20 games, Rodney has only 65 swish3 attempts, which is less than Simons 84 or Kent's 68. (Dame has 162 and CJ has 134 swish3 attempts.) Rodney should be averaging 3-6 scored per game. Let's do it!
Yes. It makes sense. It's a good question for Terry Stotts, why Hood in November averaged 7 minutes less playing time per game than CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard, when Hood shot 52 % on threes, and 58.5% on 2-pointers. And why did Hood average only 8.4 field goal attempts per game compared to 18 for Lillard and 19.7 for McCollum. We needed a third scorer, and there he is. The fucked up thing is that Hood averaged fewer minutes per game than Carmelo by a hair. How is that possible? https://www.espn.com/nba/team/stats/_/name/por/split/40/table/game/sort/shootingEfficiency/dir/desc
It drives me crazy everytime i look at the boxscore and see him 5/6 in the 4th quarter, Blazers need to make a lot more plays to get him much more involved
So long as Rodney is shooting swish3’s and not brick3’s I am good with him shooting as many as he wants.
Its not clear why Stotts isn't getting him more touches. He was silly good last game, and those were not easy shots like wide open 3s etc. Some were highly contested with little time. He should not be the 4th option with that starting lineup. Dame and Melo draw so many defenders, and Hoodie uses this to his advantage and nails them most of the time. He could easily average 25 on a team where he was a primary offensive weapon. Offensively, this starting lineup is really really strong.
If Rodney had averaged 6 swish3 attempts per game, he would have had 108 instead of the 65 that he has. I would love to see Rodney score an average of 25 against the 3 California teams this week. Let's see him shoot 6+ against LAC SAC, and LAL!
