This team seriously needs some quality role players, it's ridiculous. The Nets have the second highest scoring duo in the league I believe with VC/RJ but after them there's nobody else on this team that steps up on a consistent basis. The games that they win are when Boone steps up his game and/or when Nachbar steps up his game. Now with Harris hurt, hopefully it's only day to day, it's going to be even worse since Marcus is also inconsistent. This team is in dire need of some actual role players that can bring it to the table consistently. Oh how I miss Mikki and House!

Vince and RJ aren't superstars by any means but Vince is a 2nd option on a championship level team and RJ is a third option on a championship level team. So I guess there is that void for a main superstar. Regardless, their doing the most they can out there, being the 2nd highest scoring duo in the league. The problem is that nobody else on this team steps up and does their job on a consistent basis.

The problem with our team aside from having 4 of the same players on our bench, good def. no off. and only 1 inconsistant shooter is that our 2 superstars, i don't really even consider superstars. Are they good? of course, im not going to deny that, but they play sloppy, RJ isnt very clutch, they both dissapear at somepoint in the game, and they can't take over a game. RJ is not a first option guy, i know someones gonna throw stats at me, but stats don't matter if you cant score when your team is in a draught. Vince on the other hand CAN take over, the problem is he dissapears for 2 quarters a game and then turns it on when it's too late. If our bench wasn't so one dimensional we could get away with this and have a balanced team, but it's not. You can blame the coach for playing just mind boggling combinations and running schemes that don't fit us and you can blame thorn for putting crappy benches together year after year. He havent had a good bench since Harris and Aaron Williams. I really can't fault Thorn or Frank for our big man dilemma /w Krstic always being hurt yada yada.
Theres nothing we can do about spilled milk. I have two free agents that would improve our bench big time. Mikael Pietrus and Chris Duhon. Duhon is a great all guts and glory PG and knows how to run a team and he is not returning to the bulls after falling out of the roster. I would trade M will for a first round pick if that or a second and get him out of here. Pietrus is an atheltic wing that is needed to backup VC/RJ. Also Warriors have to resign B Davis, Ellis, Biedrins, and Barnes. Pietrus will require a 4 year 16 million dollar contract but he is worth it. Duhon may be had for less but Toronto might be in the market for him.
I like Duhon but we already have Marcus Williams, Devin Harris, and Darrell Armstrong. Armstrong is probably out of the picture, but we are left with Harris and Williams. What happens? Does Devin start and Duhon play backup, while Williams just relaxes on the bench? What's the scenario? Edit: I skimmed through your post, and missed the part about trading Williams for a pick.

Yes the defense is there but we need more than Boki on offense. In the off season sign Duhon and Pietrus. Buy out Hassel. Trade M will and resign Boki and Diop. Last we draft Batum and Douglas- Roberts and stash away our 2nd rounder on a Euro. New Lineup PG-D Harris/ Duhon SG-Carter/ Batum/ Douglas- Roberts/ Ager SF-Jefferson/Pietrus/ Boki PF-Curly/S. Williams/ Swift C- Boone/ Diop And Mc Donalds can promote Batum and Pietrus as the French Fries Duo...lol
Hey Savior good to see you over on S2! Send me a PM, and punch Pegs in the nuts if you have any questions about the site. I'm actually quite fond of Diop. He's there for defense and rebounding, and I'm pretty impressed with what he brings to the table. He's also got the longest arms I've ever seen in my life.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (cpawfan @ Mar 19 2008, 12:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>This happens when the best players on the team are actually role players.</div> LMAO. What is Vince's "role"? Is it to lead the team in rebounding, lead them in scoring, lead them in assists and playmaking, lead them defensively, lead them in hustle? Cause he's done all those things on many occasions this year and sometimes all in the same game (like tonight). He is not as consistent as you'd like your star to be, partly due to injury earlier in the year. But to call him a "role player" is to render the term totally meaningless.

I think PAcers are interested in him but duhon last year had 88 3 pointers and has 45 this year before he was shut down. I just like the way Duhon handles the ball correctly and Marcus makes these passes when no one is there. Yes he is young but for how long is this going to be his excuse. The reason everyone passed on him was because of now having that love for the game. Today I was happy that Darrel came off the bench. Because he is always clapping even when he doesn't play which he is a true vet. But when they showed Marcus in the second quarter with his arms folded, lokking serious why should this guy be on our team or in the NBA.

Keep in mind that we've been watching the Nets the last couple of years, it's going to be hard to pull that one over our heads
There have been many games since coming to NJ that Vince led the team in effort, starting with almost every game from January to April in 04-05. While his defense is up and down (sometimes very down), when he's focussed, he's tremendous. The fact that he's not given credit for the great defensive quarters and games he's had as well as the bad is because some people are more comfortable being sheep than assessing fairly what's right before their eyes. Without a doubt, Vince has been the best defender on this team since the Kidd trade. And he's hustled as much as anyone most games too.

However, that is the prime problem with the Nets. Their two best players should be role players on a championship team.
