<div class="quote_poster">Quoting jump:</div><div class="quote_post">Ron Artest was named a reserve for the All Star Game today. Nice to see him getting some respect.</div> Definitely, he's very serious though, I question as to whether he'd make it fun. He probably would though as he'd be locking down everyone. Well deserved, I would've wanted him as one of the ASG starters though.
Its good to see him get the respect he deserves. I hope he goes through with what he said before about D'ing up everyone at the game. Its good to know that someone will be playing hard the whole game.
Magic Johnson has a point there. As much as I love Ron, I question whether or not he's the right kind of player for the all-star game. The game is all about highlight reel players and players like Ron Artest and Andrei Kirilenko just don't fit that mold.
If the game is about highlight reel players, then lets just take out all the players that have skill and put in people like Darius Miles. Which do you think would be better, a game with AK47 and Artest or a game with Darius Miles? The all-star game needs players who can do more than just dunk and get in a highlight reel. I am not calling all the starters these types of players but some of them are. But back to the topic, I am glad Artest is a reserve. I hope he doesn't let Kobe score and blocks Yao.

The fact is, however, that the reason the fans pick the starters is because the game is for the fans and most fans want to see the highlight reel dunks from Vince Carter (first in votes this year).
The allstar game is about the best players in the league pitted against each other. Not about who can dunk the hardest or be the flashiest. I can't say that I don't watch for that but I want the best in the league to play each other.
The best popular players. Anyway, it's good to see he'd made it, after a year of flagrant fouls and technicals, he has calmed down some, and is "acceptable" for the game. He's got mad skills on both ends of the both, and that's one thing I love about the guy. Really, he's the only reason I watch the Pacers. Of course, I kind of miss those flagrants...
The starters are just the players with the most fans but the reserves have to be the best of whats left.If Yao wasn't so popular he might not be in the ASG at all because last year he didn't really deserve it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Just-Magic:</div><div class="quote_post">If Yao wasn't so popular he might not be in the ASG at all because last year he didn't really deserve it.</div> My theory on Yao getting voted into the all-star game by fans is that there are more people in China than the U.S., and basically every basketball fan in that country votes for him.
^there is like 2 billion people in china and all of them most likely know who he is so if like 10% of the country votes for him he will easily start. anyway there was a good story on Artest and O'neal in Sports Illustrated today.

He deserves to be in the game anyways....but not as a starter
