<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He sat comfortably on the floor after yesterday's practice reading his own press clippings, always a dangerous activity for a youngster in the NBA who's on a hot streak. A headline for the USA Today sports cover story read: 'just a natural-born scorer.' And second-year Sonic Ronald Murray read every word of the piece that gushed about the league's newest phenom who introduced himself to a Seattle audience last month with six straight 20-point games. Still, like many Northwest treasures, the news about this former benchwarmer has taken time to spread to the rest of the country.</div> Full Story The good news guys, is Murray taking this professionaly. He publicly supported this move. He's looking forward to improving his defense.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">What did this article have to do with him sitting on the bench?</div> If you follow the link, it talks about how Nate benched Flip for slacking off on defense. Rudeezy I see your point. Based on Nets's quote it was kinda hard to tell what the article was about. No worries
Completely agree with this - we signed Antonio Daniels exactly for his defensive capabilities, and he deserved the chance to prove himself if Flip's not up to scratch at the defensive end. Another reason he's been benched is excessive turnovers, as he's been forcing things a bit now that teams know who who is and defend accordingly. He just needs to relax and let the game come to him. For all his talent and excitement about his start to the season, it's important to remember the kid had only played 40 minutes or so of NBA basketball before this season, so adjusting to the extra pressure and hype doesn't happen straight away.
I think it's a positive endorsement of Nate McMillan as a coach - not afrid to haul you out if you're not playing any D, even if you're getting 20 a game.
I dunno... they were winning with him starting and running the floor and creating static within the game. I think it was going to be inevatable anyways when Ray was coming back.

In his last 3 games before being benched he had 5, 6 and 5 turnovers, simply because he got double teamed and wasn't adept to handling the extra pressure. He'll adjust, I think a bit of time on the bench will do him wonders, even if we start hearing about how he's been a flash in the pan.
Murray is an above-average player, but not the main guy. I figured he'd take a backseat and would be good but would die out a bit. Keep up the good work though Flip!
Yeah Flip's not getting any burn lately cos of his defense, Nate had a falling out with the franchise over our style of play, hence AD starting and playing minutes.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting anadagirlballer4strt:</div><div class="quote_post">did he "change our style of", if he did, how so?....</div> Basically Nate wants to play hardnose defense, whereas the management wants to play up tempo, high scoring basketball aka Dallas, because we have the players to do it. Check the latest news threads, i posted a link to the article in there.
oo I see...yeah, the fastbreaks are interesting...and we are like Mavs (except not much penetration...)....I wished we had some more defense. It's kinda pathetic when other teams play with us like Jello.
