The guy was just waived by the Rockets.

He's 6'7", a solid defender, active around the basket and efficient as a scorer. He can play both SG and SF.

He's going to help some playoff team.

It's to bad Paul Allen has a hard time letting go of his players even if it would make the team better.

Haven't people been saying this for like 2 years now? Dude always gets cut and signs with a contender, never does anything.

You really think Paul does the GM's job? I can just picture it. Allen's at the Practice Facility, feverishly evaluating talent and phoning GMs. Olshey's fishing off the side of Allen's thousand-foot yacht...

I always liked Brewer. His weakness is he can't shoot. He is a little better than some guys we have, but bringing in yet another new guy into the lineup will take time time to adjust. Is he better than Barton, Claver, and Wright? Yes but not by enough to make a mid season move. He plays best on the break. Half court offense is not his strong suit. At this point I would let Will take those SG D assignments and Claver the SF defensive assignments.

My take on Brewer is that he was a key player on the Bulls' best record in the NBA teams for two years.

That he didn't play much in OKC is more about them having Thabo Sefalosha, who's a similar kind of player.

He started for Utah and scored double digits on > .500 shooting. He was moved to SF there so Wes Matthews could start at SG. Not benched, moved to SF.

He played for the Bulls on the team with the best record in the NBA and shot .480 and .427 in his two seasons, the second one he started 43 of the 66 games, and did demonstrate the ability to shoot from the outside. Beyond midrange, his outside shooting isn't something you want to count on.

He does have a decent offensive game. He is sneaky along the baseline and gets a lot of easy inside baskets. In NY, he started at SF but played just 15 MPG and shot the most 3pt shots in his career there. He's not a 3pt shooter.

As far as fitting in, I think he'd be a guy you'd bring in off the bench to play defense. I don't see how he could screw that up :)

He's one of those players who always seems to get cut, so you have to wonder what's going on that we don't know about. Y'know, the Nate Robinson/Pops Mensah-Bonsu types - you see them doing stuff that seems useful and then their teams dump them.

He had a 2 year deal with the Bulls and was a rotation player.

When his deal expired, he along with Asik, Korver, and CJ Watson were allowed to walk for nothing. They were replaced by Hinrich, Belinelli, Nate Robinson, and Nazr Mohammed. I think it was a major downgrade of the bench.

In Houston, he was behind Harden, Beverly, Lin, Parsons, and Garcia. He took just 15 shots all year. Houston also isn't playing Asik, who is 11th on the team in minutes played.

The Bulls picked up DJ Augustin, who is a key part of their best record in the East since 1/1/14. DJ couldn't get PT, and was cut. He had a 1.3 PER with Toronto before getting cut. A 16 PER with the Bulls.

I have a good feeling Brewer could be a similar gem.

Do the Blazers need some defense sometimes?

I would have cut Barton if asked this question a month ago. Now? I would think you see Claver cut before Barton.

Of course it would be more likely that no one is cut.

He took 15 shots all season. Big enough sample size?

Enough of a sample size for the Rockets to dump him.
