The injury, which was diagnosed yesterday (Wednesday, September 6) by Dr. John Belzer and Dr. Keith Donatto at the California Pacific Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center in San Francisco, will not require surgery to heal and is expected to keep O?Bryant sidelined for a minimum of four to six weeks. O?Bryant, who is currently wearing an immobilizing boot on the foot, sustained the injury during an off-season scrimmage in Las Vegas during the week of August 28. Well I think he should make it in time for training camp. I hope Patrick O'Bryant is good.
This wont hurt them. This guy really seems to have scrubb potential. For some reason I dont see him being a threat in the NBA.

This puts him on the sideline for a half of a season and he has to work his way back.
this won't hard the team because i dont think we would of utilized him anyways this season..we already have enough big men..but it would take him longer to get used to the NBA now
I just hope that he doesnot end up getting lost on the bench. He needs as much practice and real playing time even if it is in a loss but preferably in a blow out win.
A little OT: Those basketballs look funny. Aren't rugby balls designed similarly to these new basketballs? Yeah, I remember Mickael Pietrus suffering a tough sprained ankle or knee in one of his first games of his rookie season, when he looked relatively impressive against the Mavs. Last year it was Diogu missing some time at the beginning of the year as a rookie from and injury. This year it is POB. This is not such a good trend. Andris, the only other first round pick missing, just hasn't really been given the PT to get injured yet, at least seriously.
Before Nellie, I wanted to see how POB would do with Monty, but with Nellie he may not play very much. It hurts his development, so he'll have to gradually work himself into the lineup. Had Nellie been on board before the draft, the Warriors would've likely drafted Saer Sene (shorter Manute Bol) or Ronnie Brewer.
thx for the news, houston. Man I love this website because other fans chip in. I like O'Bryant's potential, but he has to realize it. If he only lives up to be Michael Olowakandi, that's sad. He needs to be a defensive threat first and foremost, and then offensive threat. If he can catch he's already better than Foyle or Dampier.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AnimeFANatic:</div><div class="quote_post">With Nellie here... J.J. Reddick might've been a good fit.</div> I was also wondering about this the other day. If Mullin knew there was a possibility of a coaching change, why not make it earlier in the summer and certainly before the draft? POB is not a Nellie type player, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded before his rookie contract is up.
I think Don Nelson would have wanted a big just like Mullin did. Nelson has said that the front court is the weak part of the team. I am not sure if O'Bryant would have been the choice for Nelson, but another center would must likely had been his selection. Also what is a Nellie type player? He did have Shawn Bradley for a while.

Most of the Nellie type big men play on the perimeter or high post. He prefers big men who can shoot and pass, so the guards can get in the lane to create the offense. The one aspect of POB, that could make him attractive in Nellie's system is his ability to run the floor.
So maybe Taft or Zarko would be a better fit than Bradley, Biedrins or Murphy at C. Taft and Zarko can pass pretty well and they shoot from free throw distance. I don't know how reliable Taft is though. He could be as good as Danny Fortson is on offense.
Pattycake O'Bryant is hurt! This could be a good chance for guys like Taft to step up and maybe get some minutes instead of Pattycake.

How can anyone be happy that a kid that wasn't going to see the floor gets hurt in the only time he has to actually work on his weaknesses and learn the team's game?
