The San Jose SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned rookie defensive back Otis Merrill. "We are excited to add more depth and competition to our roster," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "Arena Football is such a fast sport, and Otis has great foot speed." Merrill (5-10, 190, Illinois St.) signed with the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League as an undrafted free agent in 2012. Before that, he played three years at Illinois State University, where he appeared in 32 of a possible 33 games. For his career as a Red Bird, he notched 76 tackles with one interception. Before transferring to Illinois State, Merrill attended the University of Wisconsin. He redshirted during the 2007 season, and appeared in only one contest as a Badger, the 2008 Champs Sports Bowl against Florida State.
