    ........Jammal Brown baby!!!!!

    Week 1: September 8-12
Winning one for the fans?No question, the best game of the NFL?s opening weekend was New Orleans? gutty last-second 23-20 victory over Carolina. And while it won?t show up in the stats sheet, the biggest contribution to the win may have been the stellar play of Saints? rookie RT Jammal Brown, the 13Th player selected at the 2005 draft. Starting his first game was pressure enough, but Brown had the daunting challenge of going head-to-head with the Panthers? DE Julius Peppers, arguably the best defensive player in the league. Indeed, the Saints? coaching staff would have been thrilled if Brown, the former Oklahoma star, could simply get a draw. Brown, though, exceeded that; Peppers did post 6 tackles and knocked a pass down, but had no sacks and, in fact, seldom put much more than token pressure on Saints? QB Aaron Brooks. And for his efforts, Brown is the initial winner of the GBN ?Rookie of the Week? award.

Carrying the load early? The Saints? Brown edged out Tampa Bay RB Carnell Williams for this week?s award. Indeed, most weeks, Williams, 5th player taken this year who exploded for 148 yards on 27 carries, including a 71-yard scoring burst, in the Buccaneers stunning upset of the Vikings right in Minnesota, would have been an easy winner himself. In fact, this year?s fine rookie RB class got off to a solid start collectively, led by a trio of former Auburn backs. In addition to the Bucs? Williams, Miami RB Ronnie Brown, the 2nd player taken this year who split time with the ?Cadillac? in the Tigers? backfield last fall, chipped in 57 useful yards in the Dolphins? shocking rout of Denver. Meanwhile, there is a palpable buzz in New York over 6-4, 260-pound Giants? rookie RB Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs, a 4th round pick this year, had 39 yards on 6 carries and added 33 more yards on a thundering kickoff return in the Giants? resounding win over Arizona. While Jacobs was officially drafted out of Southern Illinois, he also played at Auburn before transferring last season. On the other hand, RBs Cedric Benson of Chicago and J.J. Arrington of Arizona had opening nights to forget. Benson, the 4th player taken this year - and the last first rounder to sign - had just 3 carries for 10 yards in the Bears? loss in Washington, while Arrington, a second round pick this year, had just 5 yards on 8 carries in the Cardinals? loss to the Giants; Arrington, though, did have four receptions.

I wouldnt say Jammal Brown beacuase of all those double teams on peppers, and all the chips from the RBs and TEs. I saw all the replays and ever time i did i saw two people on Julius Peppers so my pick goes to Cadillac Williams for eating up that new vikings D.

Cadillac only had one really good run! His last one, all his others were little gains not much more than 6-7 yards if that many.

How many 70 yard runs did you expect him to have? Even if you take that run away, he still had 77 yards. But, you can't take that run away from him. It was part of his performance. I vote for Williams and his 148 yards rushing and a touchdown.

It sure looks like the front runners are Carnell Williams(offense) and Derrick Johnson(defense) right now, but don't count out the likes of Heath Miller, Ronnie Brown, Demarcus Ware, and Shawn Merriman yet.. [IMG]
