I went into the Rookie/Sophmore game thinkin i was gonna see some competition. Instead, I saw a dunkfest with absolutley no defense. It was actually kinda embarassing. It showed that the younger players care more about how they look, rather than how they play the game. It should be an honor to play allstar weekend, but they seem to not consider that. The rookie's had no inspiration or heart. Just out there misfiring on alley-hoops and takin illadvised 3's. Damn shame[IMG]

That must have been your first Rookie/Sophomore game.

Why should they play hard? It's like the only weekend off these players have all season. You can't expect them to go all out. They are there to have some fun and mess about. High flying dunks, fancy passes and threes is what the game is all about.

For the rookies they hacn't experienced having to play this much basketball in their lifes so they enjoy the break to hang out and mess about.

I always watch these games to see what dunks they pull off but I also like to see the reaction around the arena with the interviews and chat. Thats what all-star weekend is all about.

Like Butter said, this must have been your first ever rookie/sophomore game. They don't play hard. It's all fun for them, not really much competition. They put on a highlight show for the fans. Go back and watch some games from the past, please.

Its basically just an all-star game for the young players, no one really cares about winning and no one is playing very hard or playing defense because they don't want to get hurt/hurt someone else. That game will probably end up being more entertaining than the actual all-star game since you got to see Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Monta Ellis, and Rudy Gay all go nuts and do some cool things. The real ASG has basically all the same starters every year, nothing new really, some guy will or will try to bounce it off the backboard to himself and dunk it, Kobe and A.I. will try to prove their unselfishness by getting like 20 assists, Shaq will be a PG for a few possessions and probably take a 3. Same crap every year.

Why should they play hard? Because they have the honor to play in the NBA in front of millions. Millions come from all over to watch these guys compete, only to see them not even caring who wins. It's a shame! They get upset when they don't get invited to allstar weekend

Mess about? Did they actually wanna "play"? I was kinda expectin the rookies to go out and wanna win. Turns out they weren't interested in winning. Reggie Miller even stated the lack of enthusiam from the rookie. Gettin blown out by 40 is quite embarrasin. But nobody seemed embarrased.

That's you. As for the rest of the fans, we wanted to see the young players actually compete on the highest stage. I wanted to see a good game, not exaggerated highlights.

You obviously haven't watched any of the old games with Magic, Isiah or Jordan on allstar weekend. These guys went hard at each other. It was actually a "game" not a fake dunk contest. It's not just the rookie/sophmore challenge, it's more the whole allstar weekend. The only thing they actually compete in is the dunk contest and 3pt shootout. It would be nice for the players to actually "care" about the outcome of the game. Wouldn't it?

Uhhh, I don't know what kind of fans you know, but to most fans, alley-oops and long threes are entertaining. If you thought the Rookie Game was boring, I'd suggest you skip the All-Star game as well. These All Star Weekend activities are for the fans, and flashy stuff is what the general fan wants.

If you expected them to play tough defense and hustle then you probably wanted to see a shitty game. To me, Rookie/Sophomore game is like an All-Star game with young guys. If I dont expect to see tough defense and hustle in the All-Star game, then I don't expect it in the Rookie/Soph game. It was a little boring, but fans want to see action (alley-oops). I have no idea what you wanted to see in this game.

[IMG] at you expecting "see some competition".
Is this seriously your first All-Star Weekend experience? The Rookie-Sophs game is usually NEVER close (it's either one side or the other) and therefore it's pretty much NEVER compeititve; I don't know what you were expecting? The whole point of it is to just have fun, dunk, try fancy-things, entertain the crowd, etc.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Why should they play hard? Because they have the honor to play in the NBA in front of millions. Millions come from all over to watch these guys compete, only to see them not even caring who wins.
    </div>

They compete hard in the REGULAR SEASON. The whole point of All-Star weekend is to have fun. Last thing I want to see is the rookies and sophmores executing set-plays and playing hard-nosed defence.

If It's close in the 4th quarter then yeah, I love it (see All Star Game 2001), but I don't wanna see players playing tight defense for 4 straight quarters.

Fans want to see the players compete. All the "highlights" are fun to watch, but when theres nobody playin defense then is it really that spectactular? Once upon a time, superstar players like Magic, Bird, Olajuwon & Jordan all played in highly competitive allstar games. Why? Because they were all highly competitive players who wanted to win. Those games were ten times exciting to watch than today's debacle. Maybe it's you fans. Maybe you guys wanna see the dunks, bricks & alley-oops, but I really just wanna see players actually "play".

Times have changed. All the fans going to the All Star events know what's up. They know they aren't going to see any real competition. It's basically just a time where the players can relax and have fun. Why would they go out and play their hearts out? Why would they play tough defense? Why would they even think about taking a risk for injury? Again, the All-Star events have been like this for years.

When was the last time the Rook/Soph game was actually close? When was the last time anyone even cared about the score? Again, it's all just fun and games. If you don't like it, then don't watch

Don't misinterpet my words. I'm not sayin go out and play like ur in the finals. But to just stand around and not even "play" I think is a insult to the fans. What's the use of watchin the game if ur not gonna play the game. Who wants to see players dunking on invisible defenders? Or crossin over on players standing 10feet away? Even throwin alley's to players with nobody within 20feet? All I'm sayin is if the current players aren't gonna play, then get some players who WILL actually put some effort.

The game being close isn't the real issue. It's player's not even attempting to compete. It's an HONOR to even be invited to allstar weekend. The allstar weekend is a big reflection on what's wrong with today's game.

I always enjoy watching the Rookie / Sophmore game more than the All Star game. It's more entertaining.

    Pointless, but entertaining.
