But in the team's 107-97 season-opening victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night in the Delta Center, a pair of rookies saw quality playing time ? and showed some promise for the future.
Ronnie Brewer, Utah's first-round draft pick out of Arkansas, scored nine points with two rebounds and two steals in nearly 17 minutes of action while showing some outstanding athletic ability. Paul Millsap, a second-round pick out of Louisiana State, had two points and two rebounds in nine minutes, all in the first half.
"The young guys are very lucky to get an opportunity to play and I've always felt that way," said Sloan, "but these guys have very good talent, they've listened a lot in camp and our coaches have worked hard with them. As long as they continue to learn, I'm going to give them as much of a chance to play as possible."
Of course, that playing time could quickly evaporate, Sloan warned.</div>
