<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If you have the No. 3 overall NBA draft pick , you get to audition just about anybody against just about anybody.

That's the Charlotte Bobcats' experience this spring. Coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff says the team is arranging to have Connecticut's Rudy Gay work out the same day as Washington's Brandon Roy, then have big men LaMarcus Aldridge of Texas and Tyrus Thomas of Louisiana State also work out together.

All four of those players should go among the top seven, so these auditions should give the Bobcats a strong feel for this draft over the coming days. This is not a draft with an obvious pecking order, so the Bobcats plan to explore numerous possibilities.

Bickerstaff plans to audition at least 10 players, although no more than six of those would be viable options for the third pick. The Bobcats are also preparing for the possibility of trading down in the first round, plus do some research in case they acquire a pick in the second round.

"We'd like to convince some players in the 8-9 (range) to come in," Bickerstaff said. "We'll let them know that if we could get a veteran player or a pick" as compensation, they might trade down.

The Bobcats owe their 2006 second-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers, but they still might get the Sacramento Kings' second-rounder. The Kings owe them a second-rounder to complete the trade that sent point guard Jason Hart to Sacramento last summer.

According to Bickerstaff, the Orlando Magic has the option to take the Kings' pick, but would have to make that decision by June 12 (the draft is June 28). If the Magic doesn't take the pick, then it's Charlotte's. If the Magic does exercise its option, then the Bobcats will get the Kings' second-rounder in 2007.

That's partially why the Bobcats brought in some players outside the first round -- notably former Wake Forest guard Justin Gray -- on Tuesday.</div>

Almost every mock has the Bobcats selecting Adam Morrison, I'm surprised he wasn't brought in for this workout.
