Roy Oswalt rushed to return the first time his balky back put him on the disabled list.

He won't make that mistake again.

He can't -- a mild bulging disk means it's unlikely he'll return before August.

The Philadelphia Phillies right-hander, who shot down retirement rumors Saturday, has battled back trouble all season. He went on the DL in May because of what the Phillies called lower-back inflammation. He lasted just two innings in the Phillies' 12-2 loss to St. Louis on Thursday night and was put on the disabled list the next day.

The three-time All-Star is 4-6 with a 3.79 ERA in 13 games and 1-5 with a 4.06 ERA over his last eight starts.
