    BRANDON ROY
"This is a very difficult and painful day. I love the game, I love the Portland Trail Blazers and I love our fans, but after consulting with my doctors, I will seek a determination that I've suffered a career ending injury, pursuant to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.

"My family and health are most important to me and in the end this decision was about them and my quality of life. I want to thank Paul Allen, Larry Miller, Coach McMillan, the entire Trail Blazers organization and our fans for all of their love and support during my time in Portland. It was a great ride."

    PAUL ALLEN
"Like every Blazer fan, I am very sad to learn that Brandon's playing days have ended. Up until Thursday night we were looking forward to seeing him back on the court Friday for the first day of practice.

"I want to personally thank Brandon for all he's done as a Trail Blazer, on and off the court. He is a true All-Star and we all rooted for him as he gave us so many amazing moments during his five years as a Blazer."

    LARRY MILLER
"Brandon Roy will always be a Trail Blazer in our hearts and minds. He was an All-Star and a warrior every night that he stepped on the court and gave everything he had to help us win. He was a role model on and off the court, and through his leadership he turned us into a winning franchise once again."

That doesn't sound like Roy. All 3 statements sound like something some PR person wrote for them.

Agreed. Will wait until the smoke clears before making conclusions.

Hopefully Roy has a press conference soon. Really interested to hear his explanation of the whole situation and his thought process in this decision. What prompted his abrupt change in retoric.

I thought this was already answered. Didn't he talk to the doctor after he met with the Blazers on Monday. What am I missing here?

Oh course a pr guy wrote the release statement. Part of the business. I am patiently waiting for Roy to gather himself enough to address the public personally. I'm sure he's pretty upset right now.

That brings up something I've been wondering about, why did Roy wait till the lockout was over to even see the doctor? If I were Roy I think I would have had my own team of doctors looking at my knees that were independent of the Blazers medical staff. Seems like Roy should have known his career was over long before he showed up to see the doctor on Thursday.

I know but Blazers do shit so hamfisted at times. That statement sounded like it went back and forth between public relations and the legal department about 5 times before they could finally figure out what they wanted to say.

I think it may have more to do with the contravesy that comes with the decision. Even abbot wrote this smells fishy and referenced that we did this before with Roy. Fact is none of us really know what happened. It could have been prompt by brass or by Roy. I don't think Roy wanted to be amnesty. I think his pride would rather him retire on a good note. I'm sure he knew the blazers would use it if not now, for surely this summer.

I will seek a determination that I've suffered a career ending injury, pursuant to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.

I don't see anything strange about that statement. It obvious Roy is retiring. Now he just wants to make it an official career ending injury pursuant to the CBA so the Blazers can get that benefit of medical retirement under the CBA.

I think this is consistent with the way Roy has handled himself since being a Blazer. Maybe Roy didn't write it, but makes sense and doesn't seem so out of the ordinary to me. Basically the next step is to have the NBA declare it is a medical injury type retirement and Roy is waiting to hear tha it has been deemed so.

I'd like to hear the word come out of Roy's mouth, I'd like to hear his detailed explanation over 20 minutes with media follow up questions; as opposed to half sentence tweets from Jason Quick and Chris Broussard.
