"Right-hander Kevin Pucetas surrendered two no-doubt homers in the ninth inning Monday afternoon that enabled the Arizona Diamondbacks to snatch an 8-6 victory from the Royals in a battle of split-squad clubs at Surprise Stadium. The Royals salvaged a split by beating San Diego 11-3 in a night game in Peoria, Ariz. Pucetas inherited a 6-4 lead to start the ninth inning of the opener. Arizona took the lead on A.J. Pollock's three-run bomb to left on an 0-2 pitch with one out. Ryan Wheeler followed with a rocket to center field. The two teams combined for seven home runs in blustery conditions that included winds blowing out and gusting to 29 mph. The Royals built leads of 5-0 and 6-4 against Arizona behind home runs from Kila Ka'aihue, Melky Cabrera and Clint Robinson. Ka'aihue's homer was his third of the spring. The Diamondbacks, 4-9, began their comeback against the Royals' top two relievers. Konrad Schmidt's two-run homer capped a three-run fourth against Joakim Soria before Robinson Tejeda opened the sixth by surrendering a Juan Miranda blast. Robinson led off the eighth with a homer that sent the Royals into the ninth with a two-run lead. The split dropped the Royals to 7-3 and into second place in the Cactus League. San Francisco leads at 9-3." Read more: http://www.kansascity.com/2011/03/07/2705758/royals-fall-to-arizona-in-split.html
