Thanks for the link. It is not as bad as the rumors say . . . but it isn't good either. Rudy is concerned about his minutes and what adding Turk will do to his minutes. That is a politically correct way of saying I'm not real happy about this. It doesn't look like the rumors were pulled out of thin air . . .
Personally I don't see an issue with Rudy's playing time. Blake, Roy and Rudy are a solid three man rotation for the two guard spots.
I wonder if he's been pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised. Hard to get a read on that from the comment.
2 out of 3 aint bad. Blake shouldn't be a part of any three man guard rotation, much less a good one.
Keep in mind, that although Turk is not the "banger" we all want at the back up PF spot......he has played the position before. So against many of the teams, he can take those minutes that Travis had, as i think we are all in agreement that both Travis and Turk can not both be on the team. (unless they are getting rid of Martel or Batum) So Rudy's minutes may not be effected as much as he thinks. And i still like Rudy in with Roy and Turk at the end of games.
Blake has a good basketball IQ, works well with Roy. can knock down the open shot and accepts his role. I know he is this summer's scapegoat, but Blake was a huge part of the success from last season.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I have not been happy with Blake since he first put on a Blazer Uni. So he isn't just my summer's scape goat. Sure, he isn't dumb and he can hit the open shot as long it isn't crunch time, but is that what you want to say about your starting PG? He isn't stupid and can hit open 3's? I would like to be able to say "Our starting point guard can take some of the load off of Brandon's back so he doesn't get worn down as the season progresses." Right now, I just can't say that about Blake and I am never going to be. Blake would be a decent 15 minute a night reserve. He is one of the worst starting point guards in the league.
I think it was proposed that this was all a form of misunderstanding right before everyone flipped their lid.
I don't see those comments as refuting the ESPN rumor at all. Just a bland attempt to downplay them, while still echoing the underlying sentiment... I think Rudy is too nice of a guy to say that stuff directly, but it's pretty clear from the above quotes that he's feeling it.
I would be concerned if Rudy didn't show apprehension regarding us pursuing Turk. What I'm glad about is that his words don't reflect a guy who is "infuriated."
The more minutes Hedo takes at SF, the less minutes Roy gets at SF, the more minutes Roy gets at SG, the less minutes that Rudy gets at SG and SF.
"Turkoglu is a Guard and we are speaking about almost six for two positions. This makes me think that the team does not give me space for my work. I have demonstrated that I could be more of a factor." Somebody needs to inform Rudy that Hedo is a forwared. This misunderstanding is the source of Rudy's concerns. Hedo will spend 85% of his time at the 3 and the other 15% at the 4. Of course, Hedo COULD, in a pinch play spot minutes at the 2, but that would only be in an emergency (i.e. one of our guards is injured or in fould trouble). There, problem solved. The player most impacted by adding Hedo will be Travis (likely gone), followed by Batum (from starter to back-up) and possibly Martell, if healthy. Hedo's presence should have little impact on Rudy's PT. BNM
Roy played SF when Rudy was on the floor on quite a few occasions last season. I think the addition of Turk would eliminate Roy from that position and keep him solely at SG and PG. Rudy's concern for minutes is legit.
