http://www.portlandtribune.com/sports/story.php?story_id=127054433978358000 I was not here last summer. I know, the Bulls forums I went to, a lot of Bulls fans wanted to trade Hinrich for Rudy. What is the consensus of the forum here? His three point shooting would help us, and we run an up tempo game. Thoughts?
You don't have the cap space to take Hinrich for Rudy. It'd have to be something like Joel and Rudy for Hinrich just to satisfy the cap rules.
I got a man-crush on Rudy. I truly believe he'd become a 15-5-4 player here in Chicago off the bench as the 6th man.
Ok, let him walk. Most Blazer fans would say that, so it's not surprising. I am talking about not taking Hinrich for Rudy.
My guess is he could get much more money and a bigger role playing overseas, so I wouldn't trade too much to get him if I were an NBA team. He's already under a contract here, so they can't pay him any more. So basically, he's outta here.
Rudy is a fantastic player, but just caught in a minutes logjam and style issue here in Portland. He works best in a free-flowing offense, which McMillan doesn't run. Also, he's behind a pretty decent SG in Brandon Roy. Put him in Phoenix or with the Knicks and he's playing 35 minutes a night and averaging 18-22 points per game with 4-6 assists. He's a playmaking SG. In Portland he just hangs out at the three point line and waits for the ball; it doesn't play to his strengths. I think of him like I do Drazen Petrovic. Once he got from under Clyde Drexler's shadow, he showed what he could do with the Nets. Let's hope Rudy's life doesn't end prematurely like Petro's did. If you want to see what he's capable of, watch Rudy play for Spain in the Olympics rather than watch Rudy as a Blazer.
portland can still have him under contract for two more years if they want. it's not really his choice to just walk.
Then why does a portland newspaper say he wont be playing for the blazers next season? Ok saying he can walk may have been premature, but rumor has it he won't play for the blazers next year.
He'll probably demand a trade. For the people that believe a player's decision or demands don't matter as much as standing by their contract, should take a look at those that have and the outcome.
That Roko Ukic guy who played for the Bucks. And that shitty guy we got from the Blazers whose name is suddenly escaping me. Khyrapa, that's it. Maybe JC Navarro, but I think he just left after his contract was done. Basically they say they're done playing here and give up the rest of their money to get a release. I think technically speaking they're not allowed to play until they have a buyout here, but he can sort of force the issue by leaving and saying he won't play.
so thus far it's only been bad players who weren't getting time anyway who've been waved and then gone back overseas. i'm pretty sure navarro just had a qualifying offer but decided to leave instead. i'm pretty sure foreign teams aren't going to try to sign guys until the nba lets them go. they don't want to start a fight with the nba.
Yep, it's a new situation, but there is a pattern where a guy says "I'm not playing as much as I'd like here, and I want to be home" and getting his wish. While I think Rudy is relatively better than those guys, the reality is he's still a bench player with no prospects of not being a bench player with the Blazers. Were I the Bulls or any other team, I'd be pretty wary of trading much for a guy who's said he doesn't want to be here in any way shape or form.
If I were going to trade for him, I'd want to have a face to face with him first and come out of that feeling like he wants to be on the team.
