<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES -- Rudy Tomjanovich, who guided the Houston Rockets to NBA championships in 1994 and 1995, agreed Friday to coach the Los Angeles Lakers.

We expect that he'll sign a contract and we'll hold a press conference tomorrow to announce it," team spokesman John Black said.

In a move expected for the last five days, Tomjanovich succeeds Phil Jackson, who coached the Lakers to three titles in five years. The team announced June 18, three days after losing to the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals, that Jackson wouldn't return next season.

It's pretty much official. The Lakers have officially agreed to terms with Rudy T. I had a feeling this move would be coming here soon and I'm not at all surprised by it. I feel that they got the best person for the job. I think Rudy will do a good job as the next coach. The deal, by the way, will likely be worth $30 mil over 5 years. Thoughts and opinions?

This isn't a suprise, and this is what the Lakers should have done to begin with before the we love Coach K Thing occured.

Rudy will bring Depth, and Disipline to this team when Jackson couldn't be able to do.He will be in control of the team, and if any players get out of line,he's not afraid to stop it at all if the player is a big star.Rudy will take the Lakers a long way in the long run, perhaps if Rudy T Was the coach this year, the Lakers might have been crowned the NBA Champions??? A Good Move indeed for this team, and yet a very bad move for Kings fan's like myself

FINALLY! You have to respect Rudy T's patience with the Lakers after the college coaching fiasco. This is just in time for the Laker's pre-season games, which is a good sign, but it's going to be a rush job getting Rudy T familiar with the personnel and having proper evaluation of the players. I have confidence in the Laker's staff, but I'm curious to see if all the assistant coaches remain, defect, or are replaced by Rudy T for people he is used to working with.

At least the Lakers got to step 1 with getting their coaching situation solved. Now they need to work on figuring out who the superstar is going to be and how to make him happy, and what players will be needed to build around him.

^CM Mitch Kupchak actually told Rudy that he would interview more candidates so I guess Rudy understands it.
