The wife doesn't have much interest in basketball anymore, but I can get her to look up from her laptop once a night to marvel at a crazy-ass play Rudy Fernandez pulls off. Over time, I've come to realize there's one every god damned game.

    Seriously.

    Every.

    Single.

    Game.

So I thought I'd start a thread and point out what it is.

Tonight (and it's only midway into the fourth against Golden State) it was the drive down the baseline. Rudy's about to have his lunch eaten by Biedrins, so he throws up this insane circus reverse shot that sails about 5 feet above the backboard. I'm thinking, "Christ!", and then there's Oden to grab it on the rebound and he's got the easiest dunk of his career.

Now, you could call that a bad shot on Fernandez's part. It goes down as a miss. But I seriously think it was an assist.

Go ahead. Try and argue that he didn't leave it there lingering on the backboard for Oden to snatch and dunk at his leisure. A lesser player, and I'd probably think the same thing myself.

But with Rudy? Uh uh. He planned it.

I think the refs get the award for this one tonight. Rudy getting called for getting the ball about to go on a fast break to dunk and tie...

    I agree.
He is too calculating, too smart to throw around wild ass stuff. You are right. Its more like him to create a shot for Greg than it is to be sloppy and out of control.

I think he drew Oden's man away from Oden, so for that I give him credit, but I'm pretty sure he was shooting the ball. If anyone actually planned that, it's Rudy, but I find that extremely iffy.

i watched all the spain games in the olympics and I think he might of try that but Rudy does take shot like that.
I love how the spanish play they play that And1 type ball, but not the I want to make my opponent look like a fool, but i want to make my teamates look good and get the fan to go crazy.

You might be right, because Oden was in his peripheral coming down the lane but Rudy was too committed to the shot to leave the ball behind. It certainly looked like a shot attempt initially, but the end result looked somewhat intentional.

For Rudy to save the missed attempt, Oden loses a rebound...

I also think it was planned ahead of time. He tossed the ball high off the glass. Too high. Unless Rudy really lost control, I think it looked more like a pass.

Consider this, the ball had a lot of spin and yet still came off the backboard and cleared over the rim without touching it. I think he put a little extra into that shot than if he was trying to finish it himself.

    Whatever, it looked sweet.

Dang. Been about 10 years. Hard to believe I used to be darned near fluent once. Hopefully any native speakers here won't embarrass me too much.

    Cada año, mas ano.

Seriously, I'm too fucking lazy to bother with the spanish keyboard. Hell, I'm proud of myself that I was willing to dig that far back at midnight after three fairly stout martinis.

    No worries.

I was just recalling about how I used to giggle in high school when I found out the difference. Ella tiene diez y nueve anos. :ghoti:

Although if my wife had 32 anuses, it'd probably be worth its own thread.

...right when I saw this play, I told all of my friends that Rudy better take credit for the assist during the press conference [I will always believe it was a circus pass high off the glass...at least until I hear otherwise]!!!
