QUOTE

Houston Rockets point guard John Lucas III asked for a trade during the summer because of the glut of point guards (seven) on the roster. The last place he expected to be in October was at Rockets' training camp.
"I'm here," Lucas said. "I want to play. I don't want to be stuck someplace where all I do is sit. Do they have a place for me? Who knows?"

Source: Yahoo Sports

That migh just be the worst kept secret in basketball. I do applaud Lucas though for still coming to training camp and giving his all, despite the fact that he has no chance of sticking around.
New Orleans was very interested in him in the summer, and they could pick him up after he is cut. It'll be be good for both the Rockets and Lucas.

With the addition of James, Francis and Brooks we all knew the cut had to come from somewhere. Logical decision by the Rockets. Hopefully he gets picked up pretty quickly. Echoing what Locke said, kudos to him for coming to training camp and fighting for a spot. It shows his heart and love for the game.

Teams already know the Rockets are going to waive Lucas. If they're interested, they'll just pick him up off waivers without giving up any picks or players.
