It has been trying to move up for Shelden Williams, which wouldn't require a No. 2. It is highly doubtful the Bulls would take such a chance because Hill may not be able to play, though he has played well when he has been able to the last two years. He only has one year left on his deal, which may be a way to preserve salary-cap room for a better free-agent class in 2007.</div>

It says we would move up to draft Shelden Williams but I can't see that. If we do move up, I think we would draft Rudy Gay (who we are reportedly in love with) or Brandon Roy (who everyone and their grandma is reportedly in love with). Do you guys think trading Hill and the #11 pick for the #2 pick would be worth it?

As long as we draft Roy and keep the money that we gain for doing this trade for the following year, I don't see a problem with the trade. Maybe if they threw in a 2nd or something for us to add more depth. I would love to keep Grant Hill for his veteran leadership in the lockeroom, but honestly I wouldn't play him for more than 20-25 mins and I think best case scenario is 11 4 4 in around 60 games and I think Brandon Roy would get that in 70+ games, plus he's younger and we don't lose any of the salary that Grant Hill will get us

If we draft Shelden Williams then I would absolutely hate this trade..

I think the Bulls have a ton of cap room so they can absorb Grant's large contract.

Here's another scenario. If we do move up the #2 pick, what about Adam Morrison?

Why would chicago ruin their cap room for hill, is his contract ending soon or something, and still, why?

His contract is up after this season and 2007 is supposed to be one of the best free agent classes of all time when players like Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter, Paul Pierce, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Carmelo Anthony will be able to test the market. If the Bulls acquire Hill's contract, it will end after the season giving them a lot of money to spend on a top player.

but if they dont take on anyone, they will still have that much cap space, and then lose the 2nd pick for the 11th?

Yes you are correct. A veteran presence like Grant Hill would do wonders for their young team in the locker room and if they believe they can have him healthy then it could be a move that gets them deep into the playoffs and potentially a contender.

I still don't understand why they would do it, unless they feel that there are no pieces up there that could benefit their team and think that they could get someone like Shelden Williams at 11 while paying much less money on the cap then at #2. That's the only ways that I think they would do that trade.

Swish, if we move up, we HAVE to get Brandon Roy.

btw, I looked it up and Chicago currently has $18,292,392 on their cap number for next year. That counts 7 players, but doesn't include Tyson Chandler. Here is their salary information. http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/chicago.htm So they definetely would have enough money to take on Grant Hill's contract.

But dont we have to take on a salary figure close to Hill's in return for the trade to work? I didnt think a rookie salary was in the range needed for a trade to work. Either way unless we can get the best player in the draft that we want, I would take a chance on losing salary freedom for a rookie. I would much rather develop our guys with hill here this year and then get a star or superstar to make the team complete. And sign hill to a vets minimum for a locker room presence.

Chicago is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay under the cap, so it doesn't really matter who we trade to them. They will still be way under with Hill's contract, so the trade would work, still don't know why Chicago would do this trade though.

Under the Bargaining Agreement, since Chicago is well enough under the cap to absorb Hill's contract, we do not need to match salaries. You only have to match salaries if both teams are over (or will put them over) the cap.

Thanks for explaining that jonboy418. I always wondered about that. So both teams do not have to be under. I guess that makes sense why Atl was able to make the joe johnson trade. Thanks for clearing that up.
