Rumor: Hendo vs Marquardt @ NYE Show

Last Saturday night at UFC 88: Breakthrough in Atlanta, Ga. was a good night for middleweights Dan “Hendo” Henderson and Nate “The Great” Marquardt as they were both victorious in their respected bouts.

Henderson won by way of unanimous decision against Brazilian jiu jitsu ace Rousimar Palhares with a solid all around gameplan and preventing Palhares from keeping him on the ground with great sprawling technique. Meanwhile, Marquardt was very impressive with a stunning first round KO of Martin Kampmann who before the fight was undefeated in his Octagon career. Now with those two fighters getting back on the winning track their have been some rumblings of a possible middleweight showdown between Henderson and Marquardt at UFC 92 on New Years Eve weekend. With both fighters wanting a second crack at current UFC Middleweight Champion (and destroyer) Anderson Silva it makes perfect sense that such a matchup will happen and NYE weekend sounds like the most logical place to have the bout as well.

With last week’s strong rumors of Lyoto Machida facing Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on the same card as first reported by URDirt.com, another matchup of this magnitude will help further make the case for a strong end of the year UFC event with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira facing Frank Mir for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. MMA fans remember that this is nothing more than a rumor at the moment, but we will definitely keep you informed when any of these rumors become a reality
