<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Today I learned there was a lot more to the comment Bob Vanderweide made to Sentinel columnist Brian Schmitz. The comment was intended to let Brian Hill know that ownership fully supports Otis Smith and what he is trying to accomplish as a GM. As I reported earlier in this blog forum, several times throughout the season there were issues of playing time Otis had to deal with. It was either fielding calls from the player’s agents or his personal conflicts between him and Coach Hill....

I also heard this morning the Magic have already started testing the water on available coaches. I hesitate to name names associated with this exercise, but one name about made me fall off my chair. There is a belief that Coach K from Duke could possibly be lured to the Magic because of the players on the current roster...

Instead of talking about other feelers that have been put out I wanted to talk about Coach K. If he could indeed be lured to the NBA it would make a lot of sense for a young Dwight and JJ to have him as their coach. Not only would he coach them for the regular season, he would coach them in the summer for team USA. It would seem there would be no better opportunity for the Magic or Coach K than the one that presents itself right now. If Coach K ever wanted the best opportunity to jump to the NBA this could very well be it. Coming to a franchise that is relatively young and has no real lineage or history that he would always have to measure up to may just be the thing that would interest Coach K, that and the fact we have the best big man to come to the NBA since Shaq.

If you look at Coach K’s history he listened to the Lakers when Kobe wanted him as his coach and if you believe some people he was close to making the jump back then. I though would think that decision was pretty easy given the circus that surrounds Kobe and the fact Coach K would be more scrutinized with a franchise that has such a championship history. You would have to think that if what I heard was serious and the Magic have interest in Coach K, he would have to really listen to this opportunity. He already knows the player Howard will become and has seen this first hand. He knows the player he has in JJ and Grant Hill. And he knows the player he would likely get in free agency in Vince Carter.</div>

This guy's name is MagicConfid and he has leaked some stuff before. Apparently he is involved in the Magic organization somehow and he knows what's going on. He leaked information about the Darko trade and also provided updates throughout the Steve Francis trade situation. If this is true, I would be ecstatic. It makes sense if you think about it. We have Redick, Dwight, and Grant, three players Coach K is familiar with. And like the article said, he has listened to offers from NBA teams before. I would be so pumped if we brought in a great coach like Krzyzewski. Not only would he give our team some media attention, he'd help develop all of our players, play Redick and possibily use some of his old plays that worked for JJ, and bring us to the next level. Coach K is a winner and I want him in Orlando! Also, he posted another update later today saying that we are considering three coaches to fill our head coaching position. The Magic are keeping those names secret for now after what happened with Flip Saunders and Weisbrod a couple years back.

I don't like this move one bit. Please don't let this be true. Carlisle or Adelman or bust.

Adelman would be the first guy I go to, they better snatch him up before Houston does. Coach K had a better opportunity at L.A. but he turned it down cuz he likes the college game too much.

Adleman's Kings have been pretty bad defensively. I'd rather have a more well rounded coach like Carlisle.

There are many reasons why I dont like this.

    - Coach K is a college and not a nba coach. Not proven what so ever.

    - Way to much camera time. Everyone would be watching the magic and coach k on how we do..which would also lead to much pressure.

    - The rival game of unc vs duke wouldnt be the same for years. As much as I hate duke with a passion..it would hurt me to see him go to the next level just for the sake of that rival.

    - If he was to coach here and were to do the same as this year which I would except seeing it would be a total new system with very young players. I would only except talk of him going back to duke or college basketball again. Then we would have to start all over again.
