I think everyone agrees this is a pretty awful move. Gordon would be a better option. Wallace would be a much better option. Kirk might be a better choice. Tyrus for our only scorer on the bench? :/

Wow... I don't agree that benching Gordon for Noc would be a good move (see my recent posting here on why).

About Tyrus, I feel somewhat bad, but the truth of the matter is that he's been very inconsistent. Out of all the starters, I see the lest amount of long-term potential damage from benching him (it can be chalked up to him not being an established guy, etc). And he's been getting pushed around pretty consistently defensively.

I wasn't assuming that Nocioni is coming in no matter what - I would perhaps consider benching Hinrich for Duhon before I would consider benching Tyrus for Noc, for example. They're equally bad moves, imo.

This is all true (especially the bolded part), but given that Wallace is playing awful, do we really want to pair him with another below-average rebounder, defender, and shot-blocker, and take our biggest offensive spark off the bench? Yeah, I know our offense has been far worse than our defense, but I don't think our defense is bulletproof and immune from dropping off just as badly as our offense.

It all depends on the rotation I guess. We don't know what kind of directives he's received from upper management, but Skiles is walking on thin ice for me.

I think Skiles is in a pretty tough spot. We can only guess what his options are, I spose, but I look at it and don't see many good ones.

Bench Wallace? Pleasing given Wallace's crummy play to date, but as much as I think he's been a sucking chest wound, I don't see any upsides to replacing him with Smith or Nocioni because the Bulls will just plain get manhandled on the boards. Obviously Wallace is not getting it done, but he's the only guy I see with the potential to get it done. If we bench him, we risk sending him completely off the reservation and that'd make the season a wash. If he doesn't play better enough to either help the Bulls or be traded for someone who can, the season is a wash. So I don't think he can be benched. Unfortunately. So, no upside in basketball terms to that move, and plenty of downside.

What I'd love to see is for Wallace to get healthy and have some better performances that we can find some team to unload him on before he gets hurt again. If we could get a shorter contract and/or a younger and stronger big, I'd be very happy. That's probably a pipe dream, but then I look around at a team like the Cavs, who have a 6'10, 250lb guy who won't play for them (Anderson Varejao) and who seems relatively desperate to please Lebron. Maybe a deal could be struck there?

Let's face it. Thomas may put up gaudy stats 2 out of 6 games, but the truth is that the Thomas-as-starter era has returned a 1-5 record. The numbers are considerably better for just about anyone else as starter, so it seems like a logical move.

Yeah, he's had two arguably good games and 4 pretty crappy ones.

I'd be pretty willing to put Kirk on the bench too though. But realistically the same goes for him that it goes for Wallace, Gordon, and Deng. If they can't just get it together, we screwed. So benching them is more or less not an option.
