From what I've seen of Ryan Gomes this past season, he has a tremendous upside. He is able to play both inside and out, can bang on the boards, and is a tremendous energy guy. When he started getting the minutes, he was producing more than I expected him to.My pick: Gomes.
:worthy: Thank you. I thought i'd look like a big time homer if i picked Gomes. (ha i just remembered.. Gomes' 29 point game was vs. Philly )I'm picking Gomes, bc he is an all positive-no negative guy. He does nothing but good things on the floor. Incredibly smart player, hardly ever turns the ball over, never takes a bad shot. He is a ball hawk, especially on the glass. He could possibly average a double-double as soon as next year (although i doubt it). The guy simply knows how to play the game THE RIGHT WAY. He has some good post moves, good midrange game, great rebounder. Hustles on defense, plays the passing lanes well, good passer. I could go on for pages about this guy, and i will vicously defend him.
Anyone will decent skills can rebound next to Shaquille O'Neal and Alonzo Mourning. Ryan Gomes is one of those players who plays the right way and defies the doubters by out working others.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him average a double-double next season. He impressed me a lot in the few games I saw him last season, and he looks like the steal of the second round so far in his career.
wow, i can honestly say that i didn't see this happening. Good to know that Ryan is getting the recognition he deserves.

My thought's when I first read the title of the post, I was gunna get into an argument like I was with the TA/Korver thread. But I'm glad people are recognizing Ryan's game. Ryan is just a solid player. He goes out there and gives his all, and he doesn't care what position he plays. We played him at the 4 mostly, the 3, and at times when we went small, even at center. But anyway, Gomes is a very good rebounder, has a knack for getting the ball in his hands. He has a nice mid-range game (could use more work but its nice to see he can step out). I think Doc summed it up perfectly when he said something like: "Ryan is just extremely solid. He's one of those guys, that when you look at the stat sheet, you say "wow. Ryan did that?" I mean I (as well as other fans) seem to notice Gomes' play during games because they always shout out his stat line when he's shooting free throws or what not, plus I have a knack for watching rookies closely (Gomes/Green/Greene). But Ryan is a skilled player that has a lot of upside in this league. I would say he is already our best PF, and if he was used earlier in the season, he would have been 3rd or 4th in votes for rookie of the year. But that's not taking anything away from Haslem. I happen to like his game a lot. He's a bull on defense, a skilled rebounder, strong, and he has nice touch from 15 feet. People have said in this thread that he's gotten "worse" since last year. Well, I disagree. This year they got rid of Eddie Jones, Damon Jones, and Rasual Butler and ended up with Antoine Walker, Jason Williams, James Posey, and Gary Payton. Of course his numbers are gunna go down. But I don't like judging someone's game based on stat comparisons. In fact it bugs me. Udonis is a good player as well, but I have to go with Gomes on this one.
I remember on Celtics Blog earlier this year i got bashed big time for saying Gomes would be part of the core. A few weeks later he came out of his shell. This just makes me more frustrated with Doc that Ryan only started getting minutes when no one else was there. He actually had a string of games on the injured reserve. :no3:
I say Gomes because he scores a little more than Haslem, when he gets proper playing time, grabs more rebounds, and he's a much better jump shooter.
Haslem is a good rebounder and a pretty good defender, but he is not a good offensive player and he is a bit undersized for a PF. Gomes can play SF and PF. He shoots at a very high percentage. He is smart with the ball, he is a pretty good shooter, he can post up or take it inside too. He is just a smart basketball player and still very young. Ill jump on the Gomes wagon.

If Doc started playing him early on in the season this kid would've been an all-rookie first team without a doubt. It kills me to see Scalabum and raef take minutes over Ryan.
I love this thread! Gomes is the man. I love his game. He has an automatic midrange jumpshot! He hussles his ass off and works hard every minute he is on the floor. I can't wait to see him play a whole season next year! Haslem is decent and is a hussle player, no contest in my book though. GOMES!
Haslems so-called 'down year' is because of a broken finger that hes been playing all year long.I dont know who is better. Because we need to see Haslem on a bad team and see how he performs, he never had that chance yet.
