<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> But Doc Rivers probably did his rookie forward a big favor by simplifying Gomes? job description at roughly the same time Reed, Ricky Davis, Mark Blount and Marcus Banks were traded on Jan. 28. ?We knew early in the season that we had to find a way just to get him on the floor,? Rivers said. ?Once we were able to move some guys out, I told Ryan, ?You?re a 4. You?re a natural at that position. ?Trying to teach him two positions was very unfair to him,? he said. ?Some guys pointed to the fact that Dwight Howard was able to reach over him for a couple of rebounds tonight. But that guy?s the best rebounder in the league. He does that to just about anyone.? Gomes found a way to adjust when guarding Howard and Battie in the post. ?My object was to try and get around guys quickly,? he said of a defensive ploy that was good for two steals last night, as well as a serious shot of confidence. ?I know I can rebound with these guys,? Gomes said. ?And if Paul (Pierce) or Delonte (West) get the rebound, then I know that I can get out there on the break. On defense, I can?t let them get around me. We have four days off after Wednesday?s game. But I?m going to have three games under my belt that I can refer to.? He?ll also understand that regardless of those early projections, he can still play his own game ? not one devised by a scouting combine. ?That?s good for me,? Gomes said of Rivers? ?You?re a 4? pronouncement. ?When Justin and Ricky Davis were here, I found I had a tough time getting on the floor as a 3. I had worked during the summer to become a 3, but I found that I was getting on the floor more as a 4.? </div> http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...786&format=text This makes me happy. As a fan of Gomes and his game, I know he's more suited to play the 4. Even though he came into the league as a 3, I just knew sooner or later he'd be moved back to his best position.
