I was glancing at the mock draft board at NBAdraft.net... they have this center from senegal named Saer Sene who, by the description he's given, sounds like he could be an absolute beast. He's a legitmate seven footer, and according to their scouting report, he's extremely athletic, runs the floor like a guard, has a great wingspan, and he has "no problem catching the ball," an Warriors fans haven't been getting from Adonal Foyle for the past nine years... anyways, their board has this guy going to Cleveland around 18 or 19.
Given Mullin's propensity for the foreign player in the draft, and the Warriors obvious need at Center (me personally, I can live with Dunleavy as a league average forward, and I like Murphy), I wouldn't be suprised, and would in fact be glad if they snagged this guy. Granted, I have nothing but a gut instinct on this, but my instincts are usually at least -okay-, and I have a great hunch about this guy.

    Any thoughts?

Could be Yinka Dare/Tito Horford or Olajawon/Mutumbo or Diop (servicable.) I'd rather have a Kristic.

They are picking so far down I'd say go for it. You cannot teach height.

Yeah, 7-8 wing span is nuts for an athletic 7 footer. The question is about his game. Supposively he tied KG's record with 9 blocks in some type of exhibition that I read on draftexpress.com. But he has only played basketball for 2 or 3 years. Maybe he could become a Dalembert type of defender/rebounder. What type of offense or whatever is still questionable. His stock will be fun to watch as the draft approaches.

I saw him at the college Olympic team or summin were it was USA vs. Internationals. He was an amazing athlete who ran the floor great and had outstanding athleticism. I think he will develop into a star in the NBA he has that much potential.

It seems like every year the athletes get more and more amazing.

Nowadays, a 7 footer who can shoot a 3pt shot is a commodity, but it's no longer unheard of.

I won't be suprised if, someday, a prospect emerges who is 7'6", built like LeBron James, stronger than Shaq, with handles like Steve Nash.

But, anyway, yeah this guy looks promising. That wingspan is freakish. And in basketball, IMO, wingspan is more important than hieght.

Diogu is 6'9" but he has a 7 footer's wingspan and it shows in the paint.

If this guy is as agile as they tout, watchout!

Definitely wingspan is more important than height but even more important is standing reach, which is like a combonation of height and wingspan. Ike's probably close to 6'7 but has a 9'1 wingspan which is the same as Chris Bosh and Amare Stoudamire but his height is still somewhat of a detriment because he has more trouble seeing the basket when posting up against biig players. I can't even imagine how huge this guys standing reach is at 7' tall and add on a 7'8 wingspan.

    I know that'll be freakish!

It's a number of factors: mainly nutrition, exercise advancements, training theory, and the fact that these athletes have been raised as children in a healthy, prosperous age (unlike the players in the 60s who were raised during WWII, for example), but every year it's getting more amazing.

What about LeBron James? AS a highschooler this guy had a stronger, more explosive body than the majority (if not all) of the current NBA Hall-of-Famers. I mean he's like a stick of dynamite everytime he goes down the lane.

And how about Amare Stoudamire? He's just a freak athlete, the kind the NBA has never seen before. He's tall with long arms but is a pogo-stick springboard who throws down Playstation 2 dunks. I mean, we've never seen dunks like these. Especially from a big man. And what, he's still a kid? If he comes back healthy, Stoudamire's going to own this league for like 2 decades.

It's pretty exciting with all these new international prospects added to the mix. You just never know.

Actually Ike's wingspan measured at 7-3. I''d bet Erick Hicks measures well beyond a 7ft wingspan,he's a shotblocking freak at 6-6. Foyle has around a 7-5 wingspan.

Sene now is figured to go a bit after #20,but it's pretty speculative. Big men with something to build on can shoot up,while other bigs who show too many limits can drop. Sene and Fazekas are 2 guys who can go a bit higher than the mocks. Josh Boone has dropped...too much of a supporting actor. Mocks may have dropped Paul Davis a bit too far,he's not flashy, but a solid Chris Mihm type is useful.
That Sene has nice instincts on D can get him SOME rookie minutes but it will take a couple years before he's playing much. He may need 15-20 lb to not get pushed around.

Saer is far from being NBA ready. His stats in the Belgian league (mediocre level in Europe) are 3.3 ppg and 4.7 rpg in 11 minutes in a weak team. For comparison, barely used Mavs center DJ MBenga had comparable stats in a far better team before going to the NBA. I would be suprised if he ends up t be an NBA star.

Thanks for the input, chuck! We're very thankful for the input since we don't get much exposure to basketball outside of the U.S.
