Just read through an intresting article on the offical site about the older members of the squad. Ole(34), Giggs(33), Scholes(32) and Gary Neville(only just 32). SAF basically predicts two more years for Giggs and Scholes as first team players saying they should have no problem for 2 more years. With Gaz he goes further and predicts another 4 years as a first team player for United.

Now, that does not really surprise me because the best full backs do tend to go for alot longer than players in other positions. Cafu and Carlos are still going even if they have lost alot of pace. Winterburn and Sansom went onto into their late 30's, as did Carboni who played for Valencia. The thing with Gary is that he was never blessed with pace to begin with so if he has lost a yard over the years I have not recognised it. The rest of his game has undeniably improved with Age. Neville is a better player now, that he was at 22 or even at 27 whilst Scholes and Giggs(who is a different player now) are at best not far off the standards they sent at their peaks.

Gary's a better defender with better positional sense, better at choosing when to overlap, much better at crossing and also a decent leader. His fitness levels have not gone down(Gaz and Evra most have covered more ground that anyone else when he had them early season). Only thing that counts against him now is that he picks up injuries far more than he used to since he broke his ankle before World cup 2002. You notice the worth of Gary Neville when Wes and JOS deputise for him for any sustained period. They ain't nearly as good.

So, it looks like Gaz will be the last of the class of 92 to play for United and he has one hell of a chance of going way past 100 caps for England. Might well lead us past LFC's 18 titles as well, which would be the best ending to his career possible.

I agree if he ended his career that way it would be great for the United fans and piss off the Liverpool fans [IMG]
