It feels good to know that there is finally someone in S Florida who can make deals in the phins favor.

Mueller, if I recall, was the GM that sent Ricky W to the phins.

Mare is a good kicker, correct? We have 4 4th round picks, not like we really need our 6th round.

Well what came out on the radio yesterday is that Carney retired a week ago and that Saints kept it under raps (don't know how true this is, Carney i think is young). It kinda works out for both teams. We need a kicker and we are happy bout getting him.

He did send Ricky to the Phins

Carney is 43 years old. He's been in the league since I was in High School back in 1988. [IMG]

A sixth round pick for Olindo Mare? Come on... The 'Fins were going to cut him anyway!</div>
There are (or might be) logical explanations for this. If Mare is cut, he can sign with whoever he wants to. Perhaps the Saints didn't want him to get snatched by somebody in the CFL or something, so they simply bought him before that could happen. We are 1 week into April, and the Saints still hadn't gotten their kicker. Time was working against them, as the draft is fast approaching...

Olindo used to be an upper echelon kicker but has declined in recent years. He still does well on kickoffs but FG's are an adventure.

Miami could have scored a few more points perhaps even won or salted awy a few more games during the reign of *ick Sa*an had Mare not been so flaky.

Rumor was he was having problems @ Pro player stadium kicking where the dirt part of the infield for the Marlins. We'll see if accuracy improves in the confines of the Superdome.

edit - <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>After a solid run which saw him convert over 90% of his kicks in 2000-01, Mare's numbers declined. He would convert less than 78% of his kicks in four of the next five seasons, inluding a career-low 72% in 2006.

However, the 10-year veteran has a very good chance to rebound in New Orleans, as the NFC South champion Saints play a minimum nine games a year inside domed stadiums.

That's a far cry from the the infield dirt of Dolphin Stadium. Not to mention a guaranteed three starts in the northeastern homes of Miami's AFC East rivals.</div>

If the NFL allows stadiums to leave dirt on their field during September and October, then I think they should also allow the entire field to be dirt and forget about grass entirely. Just imagine what a home field advantage the Seahawks would have if their only concern was that the field be level, and free of holes (before kickoff). Green Bay has "the frozen tundra (of Lambeau Field)". Seattle could have the distinction of "The muddy muck".

Personally, I can't stand the eyesore of a baseball infield on my teams playing surface. I wish the A's would hurry up and move out.

As for Mare, he should do fine in the dome.

    That's funny.

"Hello , Olinde! Good to meet you, and welcome to the NO Saints! I...er...John Carney! What are you doing here right now? Oh! Whoops, John, we thought you were retiring this year. I mean, look at your age! We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you and wish you luck in your future."

I'm still curious whatever happened to the most accurate kicker ever, Mike Vanderjerk?

That idiot kicker got cut by Dallas mid season. To my knowledge, he still has not been signed by anyone.

He came and talked to New Orleans, but that didn't happen. I'm glad though
