<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>METAIRIE, Louisiana (Ticker) - The New Orleans Saints announced Monday that they have hired Gary Gibbs as defensive coordinator.Gibbs, the linebacker coach for the Dallas Cowboys for the last four seasons and a 23-year coaching veteran, has been a coordinator three times, including at Louisiana State in 2001.The 53-year-old is the initial hire by new coach Sean Payton, who spent the last three years in Dallas as an assistant with Gibbs.ADVERTISEMENT"When I was introduced last week I said that I wanted to bring teachers in who were looking to work hard, enjoy their work and be part of a team with everyone moving in the same direction," Payton said. "Gary defines that description. He is extremely dedicated and getting him in New Orleans sets the tone for the rest of the additions to my coaching staff."Gibbs joined Bill Parcells' staff in Dallas in 2002 after serving as the defensive coordinator at LSU in 2001 and the University of Georgia in 2000."Gary stresses the fundamentals and has a sound philosophy on what he expects from a defense," Payton said. "But he doesn't allow that to take away from aggressiveness that you look for that is necessary to make plays."Gibbs had a 23-year stint at the University of Oklahoma as a player, assistant and coach. He was the coach of the Sooners from 1989-94, posting a record of 44-23-2. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=sain...ov=st&type=lgns</div>Wow. Maybe they'll actually turn this team around? He's only been a Parcells disciple for the past 3 years though so I doubt much from the Tuna has rubbed off on him.

Bill Parcells did work wonders on Bill Belicheck, Al Groh, Charlie Weis, Romeo Crennell, Dan Henning, Maurice Carthon, Eric Mangini who were all on the 1998 New York Jets coaching staff. His students have a history of being great coaches/coordinators and I think Sean Payton will be another good one.

You never know, he might. New Orleans team needs a lot of help I think, he's gonna have to be really dedicated to turn that situation around.
