Our salaries this year was 65 million.
It drops to 53 million. We are almost under Cap but we arent.

The sad part is we can't trade this years picks for just players because we only 9 players under contract to play. With the draft picks we get 2 more. Then with the MLE we can hopefully get 2 more(Vspan and Harping). Then with the TE we can hopefully get vlad.

That puts our total roster at 14. League max is 15. When we resign Chuck hayes we can get that 15.

so Roster if all that works is as follows

    pg: Alston/Vspan/head/ Sura
sg: Carney or Brewer/Harping/ PJ tucker
    sf: Tmac/Vlad /Rybo
    Pf: Stromile/ Howard/ Hayes
    C: Yao/ Deke

I'm assuming we will draft PJ tucker and Carney or brewer. This is a pretty deep roster.

I don't think it's set in stone at all who we'll pick or will get in the free agent market, besides maybe Spanouliss. You're also seriously overrating a trade exception, there is no way we could get Vladimir Radmanovic for just a trade exception; the Clippers could just let him sign with any team and get the same salary cap relief. To get him, we'd have to deal at least a pick, and I don't think he'd help us as much as we need him to.

Also, if we split the MLE between Harpring and Spanouliss, there's no way Chuck Hayes could come back, except for the minimum. Frankly, I doubt he'd get no offers higher than that. Wesley would be a more realistic option to return.

Espn listed on their free agency listing for each team that the Rockets have a team option on Hayes and Lampe. I forgot to edit it. I doubt Espn is wrong.

Can't seem to find that on the ESPN website, could you maybe show me?

Pretty sure that Hayes is a restricted free agent, but we do not have an option on him. Lampe's option shouldn't be picked up anyways.

Sweet, I'd always thought that Hayes was just a restricted free agent, and that we don't have an option on him.

Anyways, it's pretty much impossible to get under the salary cap with Yao and TMac eating up more than half the cap. A more realistic target would be the luxury tax threshold, which we reached last year with the waiving of Clarence Weatherspoon, and hopefully can reach again this year.

the most important things this offseason are the following

    draft pick #8
    our MLE
and our TE worth 4.2 million.

4.2 million can get us a really really good player. I hope our MLE is split between vspan and another player.

Once again, a trade exception is pretty much useless unless we trade for a guy like Chris Webber, or say trade Luther Head for a guy making the MLE. Once again, I think you're seriously overrating the TE. In theory, it can help us pick up some big contract another team doesn't want, but these deals almost never work out and doing so would jeopardize our cap situation as well.

One side note: You can't trade a TE along with a player. Its usually a TE for a player straight up.
