<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">TUCSON, Ariz. -- Salim Stoudamire, the moody leading scorer for Arizona (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP), has been suspended indefinitely by coach Lute Olson "for failure to meet team responsibilities." Olson announced the suspension before Thursday night's game against Washington. Afterward, he elaborated only briefly on the reason for suspending his star player. "Everyone in this program has responsibilities," Olson said, "and I don't care if it's the leading scorer or the 12th guy on the team." Stoudamire, fifth in the Pac-10 in scoring at 16.8 points per game, watched in street clothes from the bench as Arizona lost to the Huskies 89-84. Afterward, he talked about the suspension. "It was immature actions on my part that were detrimental to the team," he said. "I am not going to get into specifics." Stoudamire often has been criticized by Olson for his attitude, but the junior from Portland, Ore., had vowed to improve his outlook and become a team leader this season. The suspension served notice that he had reverted to his old ways.</div> Link W/o Stoudmire, Arizona lost tonight to Washington 89-84...Washington was led by Tre Simmons' 22 pts and Nate Robinson's 18 pts... Props to Olson for keepin his players in line...I wonder how long "indefinitely" is...would Olson keep him out of the Pac-10 tourney? I doubt it....
Yeah, it was a good move by Olson. Hopefully he sits Salim at least another game to show that he is serious about it.
Oh, reinstated already. I don't like that. It looks like he got benched for being a cancer, they lost a game, and rushed to bring him back. It doesn't make the statement very strong. If they had announced a one-game suspension to begin with, it would be different, but they announced he was suspended "indefinitely." And while there's no minimum to "indefinitely" it certainly implies they originally intended to keep him on the shelf longer than one game.
